Dr Taniform Peter recognised for championing peace, youth empowerment.

The award ceremony was under the distinguished patronage of the Minister of Communication and aimed at honouring deserving Cameroonian men, women and corporate entities that have made exceptional contributions to nation-building, socio-economic progress, peace and public welfare. It brought together high-profile personalities from across the board.

According to the award jury, Dr. Taniform Peter was found worthy of the eminent award “for championing peace efforts in the Bamenda I Subdivision and beyond; and for empowering youths through sports and economic sustainability”.

Speaking to The Guardian Post in a telephone interview following his award, Dr Taniform, who was unavoidably absent from the award ceremony, said: “I am very honoured to have received this award from CENPA. This shows that whatever I have been doing to promote peace within my community and Region in particular and the nation at large; and also in empowering young people is being noticed”.

“The award acts as a moral booster for me to continue my efforts in crusading peace and empowering the youth,” he added.

Dr Taniform noted that “while dedicating this award to the youth, I call on them to embrace peace, social cohesion and national unity, for these are ideals that will enhance socioeconomic development”.

He used the opportunity to pledge his “unrelenting push for initiatives that will take the youth out of socioeconomic doldrums and lift them to higher heights”. 

Peace, youth empowerment as Dr Taniform’s mantra

It should be noted that pundits from across the board have stated, and rightly so, that CENPA’s award conferred on Dr Taniform is well deserved. This, they say, is due to the fact that for several years now, he has made peace crusading and youth empowerment his mantra.

Dr Taniform Peter is known for his peace and youth empowerment initiatives, which, pundits say, are bearing tangible fruits.

Leveraging sports to counter socio-economic disruptions

Known locally as an architect of peace, Dr Tanform’s initiatives primarily leverage sports, economic empowerment, and youth mobilisation to counter the socio-economic disruptions caused by the ongoing Anglophone crisis. 

For over a decade, Dr Taniform has spearheaded the Bamenda I Peace and Unity Tournament, which brings together thousands of youths from across different backgrounds, to promote social cohesion and steer young people away from drug abuse and violent radicalisation.

The financial package for the tournament, with support from entities like Douala Port Authority, funds a broader holistic community development model. This includes distributing agricultural tools, upgrading local infrastructure, and opening community roads.

The sports jamboree also has an educational touch. 

Beyond the annual tournament, Dr Taniform has promoted additional platforms aimed at helping young people develop and market their skills.

In July 2025, during a North West Regional Youth Rally in Bamenda, he announced plans for three digital youth-development platforms designed to help young people showcase their skills, access mentorship and coaching, and connect with potential sponsors and opportunities. The platform is already under construction.

The platforms are also intended to document and promote the achievements of personalities from the region, while encouraging young people to see their talents as opportunities for their future. 

Advocating effective school resumption

In "Back-to-School" Campaigns & Resumption Drives, Dr Taniform actively uses his public platforms to counter the academic lockdowns that have crippled youth literacy in the North West Region. 

His peace crusades advocate effective school resumption. Dr Taniform regularly provides didactics to families to ease the financial burden of returning children to the classrooms.

Peace initiatives achieving results 

Watchers of the socioeconomic landscape of Bamenda I Subdivision, Mezam and the greater North West Region say Dr Taniform’s peace efforts have been achieving visible results.

One of the results they point at is the fact that his Subdivision of origin, Bamenda I, is currently a peace haven, with its youth having eschewed violence and embraced peace and community development, in line with Dr Taniform’s agenda.

Championing youth economic empowerment through innovation

Youth economic empowerment has also been a major priority of Dr Taniform Peter. 

Years back, he championed what was christened "New Dawn, New Narrative," an agenda designed to transition North West Region's youth from conflict into productivity. Through the initiative, Dr Taniform convened and sponsored Regional rallies, bringing together hundreds of youth leaders from all the seven Divisions that make up the North West Region.

Dr Taniform has also unveiled plans for a Youth Innovation Platform and a Youth Skill Registry, to connect local talents directly with corporate mentorship and secure entrepreneurial backing. 

Because of his several engagements to empower the youth and accompany them to socioeconomic success, the youth of the North West Region crowned Dr Taniform as the pioneer North West Youth Ambassador. 

It should be noted that his initiatives, mentoring and unending support have seen many youths exceling in their careers, entrepreneurship, innovation, guidance of their peers, among others.
