Transport minister, new EU Ambassador discuss sector projects.

Minister poses with EU envoy, collaborators

The Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna Ngallè Bibéhè, and the  new European Union Ambassador to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, Veronika Boskovic Pohar, have discussed cooperation to ensure the realization of  priority projects.

This was the focus of an audience Minister Ngale Bibehe granted Ophar on September 8 in Yaounde. Officials said the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss prospects for strengthening Cameroon and EU cooperation in the transport sector.

During the audience, officials  of the Ministry of Transport updated the EU Ambassador and her delegation on key ongoing and planned projects across the various sub-sectors.

These projects, Pohar was told, are eligible for technical, institutional, or financial support from the European Union, specifically in the civil aviation, maritime affairs, inland waterways, and road transport sub sectors.

The ministry disclosed that discussions highlighted several areas of mutual interest related to current challenges in transforming and modernising the transport sector.

In the aviation and maritime sectors, particular attention was paid to energy transition, electric mobility, and the development of sustainable fuels, with a view to making transport systems more environmentally resilient and friendly.

In the road transport sector, focused was on the potential use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance accident prevention, improve the monitoring of high-risk behavior, and optimize traffic management systems.

Both Ngale Bibehe and Pohar  also discussed cooperation in governance and trade facilitation along major transport corridors.

Cameroon, considered an engine of integration in Central Africa, the Minister said, intends to draw inspiration from experiences and best practices developed in other sub-regions of the Africa to promote better coherence in corridor governance policies and mechanisms, as well as to boost their efficiency.

At the end of the meeting, the minister is said to have promised to provide the European Union delegation with technical datasheets for the various priority projects presented.

The ministry also disclosed that working groups will be formed to conduct indepth reviews of the different issues, identify support needs, and outline concrete avenues for collaboration within the framework of a structured dialogue between Cameroon and the EU.
