CANAL+ unveils new season of sports competitions, UEFA rights, fresh content.

Canal+ officials at presser

Officials of French satellite image provider, CANAL+, have unveiled an expanded 2026/2027 programming slate, promising subscribers in Cameroon and across Francophone Africa more than 40 sports competitions, premium entertainment, new digital services and stronger investment in local content.

The new season of programmes were revealed on Monday, September 7, 2026. This was during a press conference with Challie Djeutcheu, Head of Communication, Justine Diane Zeinse, Commercial Director, and Christelle Soup, Regional Director General, presenting the group’s editorial, commercial and societal priorities.

Presenting the new season, Djeutcheu said sport remains one of CANAL+’s major strengths, with more than 40 competitions scheduled for the 2026/2027 season. The offering, according to the presentation, combines major international and African championships with CANAL+’s sports analysis, commentary and editorial programmes.

The company said its strength does not lie only in the number of competitions broadcast, but also in its ability to provide viewers with an experience built around matches, analysis and expert commentary. The group is also expanding its sporting portfolio, with new disciplines such as paddle entering the offering.

Three major UEFA competitions

A major aspect of the presentation was the announcement concerning European club football. From the 2027/2028 season, CANAL+ will offer, exclusively in Francophone Africa, the three major UEFA club competitions; that is, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League, through 2031.

The move, according to Djeutcheu, will significantly strengthen its sports offering and give subscribers access to the biggest European clubs, stars and fixtures in French.

He explained during the question-and-answer session that the acquisition goes beyond the Champions League, stressing that viewers would also be able to follow the Europa League and Conference League on CANAL+ Sport channels.

Commercial offers target new & existing subscribers

On the commercial side, Justine Diane Zeinse outlined a series of back-to-school offers designed to attract new subscribers, while rewarding existing and inactive customers.

On that note, subscribers who renew their existing package can benefit from 30 days of bonus channels, without having to upgrade to a more expensive package.

The offer also applies to subscribers whose subscriptions have been inactive for some time. According to Zeinse, customers who return and renew on their previous package can equally benefit from the 30-day bonus.

For new customers, CANAL+ is offering access to the platform from 10,000 FCFA, with installation offered as part of the back-to-school promotion.

Zeinse also stressed CANAL+’s extensive distribution network, noting that the company has more than 2,500 points of sale across Cameroon through its partners. Subscriptions and renewals can also be made through mobile money services, making access easier for customers across the country.

Equipment, accessories now at 1,000 FCFA

According to Zeinse, subscribers can now obtain key accessories at a uniform price of 1,000 FCFA from CANAL+ boutiques and authorised points of sale. These include remote controls and power supply units, while equipment replacement services are also being made available to customers.

The initiative follows feedback from subscribers who complained about the cost and difficulty of replacing damaged accessories.

CANAL+ pushes original African productions

Moving beyond sport, Regional Director General, Christelle Soup, presented the group’s broader entertainment and content strategy. She said CANAL+ continues to invest in original productions and the development of African talent, including through coaching, training and co-production.

The season will feature productions including CLASH, Apollo Has Fallen and SPINNERS Season 2, reinforcing the group’s positioning as a global entertainment company.

The group is also supporting local creative industries through collaborations with African filmmakers, producers and artists. Soup also highlighted CANAL+’s commitment to promoting Cameroonian content.

CANAL+ Impact targets communities

The company is strengthening its social commitments through CANAL+ Impact, its corporate social responsibility programme in Africa. In Cameroon, the programme focuses on three main initiatives.

ORPHÉE supports vulnerable populations through activities in orphanages, hospitals and early-childhood centres. According to Soup, the programme carried out seven operations across Cameroon in 2025, bringing assistance to beneficiaries in different parts of the country.

CANAL+ University focuses on training young talents and professionals in audiovisual, sports, arts and cultural professions. The initiative allows experts to share skills and knowledge with local actors. She said nine training activities were organised in 2025.

The third initiative, 1 month, 1 Cause, uses CANAL+’s platform to raise awareness around different social issues. The programme recorded 23 CSR deployments across the national territory in 2025, according to the presentation.

Education is also entering a new dimension of CANAL+’s social engagement through a partnership with Nomad Education. The digital platform provides educational and revision resources to learners from primary school through higher education.

The platform combines educational content, technology and artificial intelligence, enabling students to revise, assess themselves, catch up and progress at their own pace, including through offline access.

For the back-to-school period, CANAL+ said its active subscribers would receive one month of access to the Premium option, allowing them to discover the platform and its educational resources.

The group is also seeking to give subscribers greater flexibility through its digital ecosystem. Netflix content has been integrated into the CANAL+ environment, allowing subscribers to access its catalogue alongside other CANAL+ programming.

The CANAL+ application equally offers features including Replay, Expert Mode, Multi Live and live-control functions, enabling subscribers to watch programmes when and where they choose. The company said the objective is to place subscribers more in control of their viewing experience.
