Ekondo-Titi: Population jubilates, thanks Biya as road works reach town.

There was euphoria and jubilation in Ekondo-Titi Thursday, February 9, as works on the Kumba-Ekondo-Titi road reached the locality. The first phase of construction works on the road, which involved grading and opening of the road from Kumba to Ekondo-Titi, came to an end recently.

The Commander of the Sixth Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR, Region, Colonel Danzabe Rene, was in Ekondo-Titi to reassure the population of the imminent tarring of the road.

Accompanied by the engineers of the road, Colonel Danzabe and his team visited every section of the road, including the famous Ekondo-Titi Beach where the road is supposed to end.

Colonel Danzabe thanked the population for their show of support and love so far. He noted that the military has not witnessed any major incident since the works on the road began. He urged them to continue in high spirit as the tarring process begins soon.

“It is always good to be back home, at a place where I spend most of my youth from form three sometime in 1993 up to lower sixth. Now, I am the one the government has entrusted to tar the road,” Colonel Danzabe told the population.

He reminded them that his father, who is on a well-deserved retirement, spent four years as Divisional Officer of Ekondo-Titi and he (Danzabe) played in the sandy beach.

“Today I was very happy to see my room again, some of my friends and even my classroom. I am very happy to be here again after such a long time,” he said in excitement.

Much earlier, the Divisional Officer, DO, of Ekondo-Titi, Ful Francis Muh, the Mayor, Utam Margaret Ndiba, alongside an enthusiastic crowd, had come out to welcome their august guest.

‘Promise made, promise kept’

The Divisional Officer said the day the people of Ekondo-Titi had been waiting for has come and they are very excited.

“The joy can be seen in their faces, and we are so happy...I thank God, the Head of State and the Prime Minister, Head of Government for the promise made and kept to the people of Ekondo Titi,” Ful Francis Mul said.

He called for further collaboration with the forces of law and order and the military to ensure the success of the road project.

Mayor Utam on her part said she was particularly excited that the road is coming at the time she is Mayor and the first female to ever head Ekondo-Titi Council.

She thanked the Head of State, President Paul Biya, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, the military and the elite of Ekondo-Titi who, she said, are all giving their meaningful contribution for the success of the road.

The Mayor said they are very pleased with the progress of the work so far, adding that when completed business persons in Ekondo-Titi will once again open up to the rest of the region and economic activities will pick up steam in the sub-division.

The reagent chief of Ekondo-Titi, on his part, said the town is hospitable and very peaceful. He reassured the engineers and security forces of the blessings of the gods of the land as they continue to work on the road.

The visit was also an opportunity for the BIR to visit the Marine installation in Ekondo-Titi Beach, Pamol estate, and the Prime Minister’s residence in Bongogo village.
