Ekondo-Titi: Chief Achia Nawango awards scholarships to 20 children.

This was during the second edition of the scholarship scheme initiated by Chief Nawango.

The ceremony was presided over by the Divisional Officer of Ekondo-Titi, Ful Francis. This was in the presence of traditional authorities and quarter heads of the Chiefdom.

Each of the 20 beneficiaries received the sum of FCFA 50,000 to ease the financial burden on their parents on the eve of the 2026/2027 academic year.

According to organizers, transparency and fairness were at the heart of the selection process. The 10 indigenous beneficiaries were selected from the different families that make up Ekondo-Titi, while the 10 non-indigenous beneficiaries were nominated by their respective quarter heads, ensuring that both indigenes and non-indigenes living in the municipality benefit.

The second edition witnessed an increase of five beneficiaries compared to the 15 awarded during the maiden edition last year, demonstrating the monarch's growing commitment to education as a tool for sustainable development.

Presiding over the ceremony, the Divisional Officer, Ful Francis, lauded the Chief for his vision of unity and inclusion. 

"I thank the Chief for what he is doing to promote living together because the scholarships were not only for indigenes, but for everyone living in Ekondo Titi. I call on parents to join with the chief to support and promote this vision," the DO said.

He described the initiative as a powerful example of traditional leadership complementing government efforts in ensuring education for all, especially in a cosmopolitan subdivision like Ekondo-Titi where harmonious cohabitation remains essential.

Also speaking, the Personal Assistant to the Chief, Naenge Daniel, said the scholarship would go a long way in securing the education of the beneficiaries.

"I am very happy with this scholarship from our chief, because it will go a long way in promoting education. I am elated because the beneficiaries and parents are very happy. The parents should use it judiciously," he said.

The beneficiaries, who could not hide their joy, were encouraged to put the scholarship to good use by excelling in their academic pursuits and to serve as ambassadors of hard work and unity.

The scholarship programme adds to a series of people-centred initiatives championed by HRM Justice Achia Nawango since his enthronement. The initiatives are aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of his subjects.

Observers have described the Chief’s initiative as championing sustainable development and giving hope to future generations by investing in human capital with such drives that remove financial barriers to education.
