Over 308 abducted in three months in Far North Region.

It was released on July 31, 2026. The agency added that the report showed an increase of 141 abductions, within the same period in 2025, representing 118% year on year. 

The surge in kidnappings, the organisation stated, speaks of the deteriorating security in the second quarter of 2026. 

OCHA  added that it also recorded 207 incidents, attributed to non-State armed groups, leaving 72 people dead and 48 injured. 

It noted that the trend contrasts sharply with the death toll of 72, between April and June 2026; compared to 77, during the same period in 2025. OCHA graphed a modest decline of 6.5%.

The report also noted that the situation shows kidnapping remains the main threat facing civilians within the period under review in the region bordering Nigeria. 

Beyond the direct impact of abductions of victims and their families, OCHA said the happenstances also fuel fear, restrict movement and disrupt livelihoods. 

It noted that it has caused residents to flee to areas perceived as safer, with insecurity also limiting humanitarian access to affected communities. 

The report detailed that two persons were killed through the use of Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, in the Logone and Chari Division, between April and June 2026, compared with none during the same period in 2025. 

OCHA links the incident to the additional threats residents and humanitarian workers are facing, particularly on roads through conflict-affected areas. 

The UN agency cited new population displacements, a worsening measles outbreak, cholera emergency and persistent food insecurity as further compounding the lives of the local population.
