Donga Mantung, Ngoketunjia: Suspected Amba fighters set ablaze vehicles transporting foodstuffs.

Armed men suspected to be Ambazonia separatist fighters have set ablaze five vehicles transporting goods and foodstuffs in two separate attacks in Ngoketunjia and Donga Mantung Divisions of the North West Region.

A group of unidentified gunmen, Saturday February 4, burnt three cargo vehicles transporting foodstuffs from Ndop in Ngoketunjia to Bamenda, the North West regional capital.

The incident occurred at about 8am around a Full Gospel Church in Bamessing village.

In a 36 seconds video that was filmed and circulated on social media, a voice is heard confirming the vehicles were set on fire by the Amba fighters operating in the administrative unit.

In the same video that The Guardian Post obtained from social media, the voice added that drivers had been warned not to use the road, until BIR soldiers quit a control post in Bamessing.

"We told you people that the road is not passing in Bamessing and you chose not to listen. This is just an example to all the other drivers who are stubborn. We don't want to talk much...," a voice explained in the background of the viral video.

The three vehicles were reportedly transporting foodstuffs bought by some businesspersons from Ngoketunjia.

The foodstuffs were being transported to Bamenda. We gathered that no item was saved from the vehicles.

In a similar incident, suspected separatist fighters had on February 5, set ablaze two other vehicles in Wowo village in Ndu, Donga Mantung Division.

Sources in Wowo village confirmed that the act was carried out by Amba fighters.

In another video that circulated on social media, a vehicle transporting goats was spotted being consumed by fire. Another vehicle transporting planks was also burnt on the same spot.

Sources in Wowo village said the vehicles were burnt by Amba fighters for defying their ‘rules’.

In November 2022, a group of Amba fighters had circulated messages on social media, banning the movement of persons and goods along the said road leading to Bamenda.

The Amba fighters are requesting that a BIR camp stationed in Bamessing be dismantled, before the ban is lifted.

During one of his outings in December, the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Ngoketunjia, Handerson Quetong Kongeh, had said authorities of the division do not have control where a military base is set up.

He added that they were looking for means to rescue the situation. The situation has caused the population to bear the brunt. Residents of Ngoketunjia now have to pay huge sums of money passing through the West Region to arrive Bamenda.
