Minister Mbella Mbella represents Cameroon at AU’s 49th Executive Council.

The Minister of External Relations, H.E Mbella Mbella, is representing Cameroon at the ongoing 49th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union Commission, AUC, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The inaugural ceremony at the African Union Headquarters July 28, was opened by the AU Commission Chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

Present was the Chairman of the Executive Council, Ambassador Édouard Bizimana.

The proceedings at the two-day event are being held under the African Union’s theme for 2026: “Ensuring sustainable access to water and safe sanitation systems to achieve the objectives of Agenda 2063”.

Minister Mbella Mbella is taking part alongside other Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Members of the Permanent Representatives' Committee, Commissioners heads of Regional Economic Communities, and other distinguished delegates.

In his address, the AU Commission Chairperson noted that the Executive Council was meeting at a time of heightened global uncertainty, characterised by complex geopolitical developments with significant implications for Africa's economies.

While expressing concerns over the continued spread of terrorism and violent extremism across parts of the continent, he reaffirmed the AU's commitment to supporting member states in addressing the shared security challenges.

The Chairperson also stressed that achieving the aspirations of Agenda 2063 will require significantly greater financial mobilisation, estimated at approximately 1.11 trillion FCFA (US$2 billion).

He also called on member states to accelerate the ratification of outstanding AU legal instruments to strengthen the Union's institutional and legal architecture.

Ali Youssouf also appealed for the continued support of African candidates seeking election to positions within international organisations, in accordance with the decisions submitted to the Executive Council for consideration.
During the two-day gathering, the delegates will deliberate on the reports of the committee on the implementation of Agenda 2063 and committee on the acceleration of ratification and implementation of OAU/AU treaties as well as deliberate on the progress report of the 2026 AU theme of the Year implementation status.
