West Region thanks Biya for Hon Datouo's Speaker job.

In attendance were internal and external elite of the Region, administrative, municipal and traditional authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society leaders as well as ally party leaders. 

The event was marked by key speeches, traditional displays and presentations. 

It was chaired by the Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee, Jean Nkuete. This was in the presence of the West Region Governor, Awa Fonka Augustine.

While focusing his message on peace, unity and social cohesion, the House Speaker thanked the population of the West Region for the warm welcome accorded him and his delegation. 

He noted that the grandiose reception was a reflection of their unswerving loyalty and support to the ideals of the CPDM party and its Chairman.

“I would therefore like to seize this golden opportunity to publicly express my profound gratitude to the National Chairman of the CPDM party…I would now like to express my special gratitude to all those who contributed their quota to the successful organisation of this mega rally...,” he said.

Beyond making speeches, he said the objective of the mega rally was to show their unwavering attachment to the virtue of sharing and serving the population, which he said, is in essence the vision of their political movement.

Commitment to serve the country

In his remarks, Hon Datouo pledged not only to stand by the ideals of the party of flames, but also to serve the entire people of Cameroon at the law-making body with loyalty and for a strong, united and prosperous nation.

Turning to the Head of State, he said, “I solemnly pledge before the people to remain loyal to your directives, loyal to republican institutions and loyal to the united, strong, stable and prosperous Cameroon you have happily incarnated since 6 November 1982,” he first committed.

He added that: “On my part, I hereby renew before you, the people of Cameroon and God, my commitment to serve our nation with loyalty, to remain loyal and earn the confidence bestowed on me by serving the nation with all my strength”.

While expressing gratitude to the President of the Republic for picking him as successor of the late Patriarch, Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, at the National Assembly, he asserted that President Biya has entrusted in him the responsibility of contributing, alongside other members of parliament, to upholding the rule of law in the country. 

This, he said, is in addition to consolidating peace, enhancing social cohesion and improving the living conditions of compatriots.

He made the clarion call for all to contribute to peace, stability and social cohesion amongst compatriots from the different corners of the country. 

“We should, more than ever before, unite to protect what has always constituted our strength: peace, stability, unity, dialogue, social cohesion and confidence in our shared future,” Rt Hon Datouo sounded.

The meeting ended with the reading of a motion of support to the President of the Republic and CPDM National Chairman, Paul Biya.

The message was read by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Célestine Ketcha Courtes, who doubles as Head of CPDM Permanent Delegation for Ndé-North in the West Region.

It is worth noting that Hon Théodore Datouo became Cameroon’s Speaker of the National Assembly, during the First Ordinary Session of the 2026 Legislative year in March this year.

He was designated lone candidate for the post and later won the election unopposed. The 66-year-old lawmaker replaced the now late Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, who held the position from 1992 to March 2026.
