Alleviating poverty: Cameroonian corporate lawyer leads African experts to seek solutions.

Cameroonian-born corporate lawyer, Diko Mukete, has led African financial experts and leading economists in the world to seek ways in alleviating poverty and fighting the ever-rising cost of living. Speaking at the three-day event, Diko Mukete said, “our long-term goal at KIFC is to be the best in the continent, in order to achieve this, we must go together as strategic partners, as a sector, as a country, and as a continent”.

Most of the participants at the close of the meeting all hailed Rwandan president, Paul Kagame, for the inspiration in making Kigali the financial hub in the continent. They urged other Heads of State in the continent to buy the idea so that Africans can start having solutions to African problems.

The landmark success of the meeting, keen observers say, is thanks to the dexterity and astuteness of the Cameroonian-born Diko Mukete, who spent sleepless nights to get the idea to work.

The Kigali International Financial Centre, KIFC, is on the path to becoming the leading financial centre for international investment in Africa. The Board is chaired by a highly influential figure, Tidjane Thiam, the renowned Ivorian banker, who previously served as chief executive of British insurer, Prudential, and Swiss banking giant, Credit Suisse.

The Board of Directors’ meeting, which took place on February 3, with an extensive agenda that includes the progress of RFL to date, and plans for the official launch of KIFC, set to coincide with the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

KIFC is a catalyst for pan-African investment, growth, and development and the next phase of Rwanda’s journey into an international financial destination, attracting investors from across the globe.

Diko Mukete, who is a prince of Kumba, attended St Joseph College, Sasse before bagging a law degree in Cambridge, UK. He has not only put Kumba, the land of his birth on the spotlight, but also Cameroon where he served briefly as lead financial economist at the National Investment Corporation.

The certified corporate lawyer is a member of the Bar in Cameroon, England and Wales where he has distinguished himself.

Diko is also vice chair of Rwandan Finance Limited, special adviser to the Rwandan Minister of Economic Development, board member of the Rwandan Central Bank and former African Development Bank, AfDB, Director of Good Governance.
