For financial irregularities: Zhoa Council Municipal Treasurer, Finance Clerk suspended!.

While the Municipal Treasurer, Erie Doh Motia, was suspended by the Treasurer Payment General of the North West Region, the Finance Clerk, Umarou Mohamadou, was relieved of his duties by a decision of the Head of a Control Mission from the Directorate of Treasury.

In a letter addressed to North West Governor and seen by The Guardian Post, the Treasurer Paymaster General of the North West, recounted that: “Following a control report by a team from the Audit Department of the Directorate General of the Treasury, Financial and Monetary Cooperation on the 24/07/2026 to audit the financial and accounting operations of Zhoa Council, this coupled with previous control missions carried out by the Audit Brigade of the Regional Treasury Bamenda, resulted to a series of financial and accounting irregularities on the part of Municipal Treasurer, Mr Erie Doh Motia”.

The official informed the Governor that: “With regards to the above, Mr Erie Doh Motia has been suspended from his duties as Municipal Treasurer…we are proposing that he should be replaced by an interim…Yong Christian Ngong…”.

In a similar letter, issued by the Head of Mission from Directorate of Treasury and addressed to the Mayor of the Zhoa Council, the official announced the suspension of the Finance Clerk of the same council, Umarou Mohamadou.

The official said Umarou was being suspended for abetting consecutive fraudulent financial reporting and concealment of cash deficits.

In the letter, the Treasury official, detailed that: “In execution of mission letter No26/000670/LM/MINFI/SG/DGTCFM/IST of the 23 of June of the Director General of Treasury, Monetary and Financial Cooperation, within the framework of continuous follow-up and mastery of accounting and financial risk, following a complaint by the Mayor of Zhoa Council against the Municipal Treasurer relating to self-established missions orders and other financial malpractices addressed to the Governor of the North West Region (with copies forwarded to the Minister of Finance); a thorough review of the financial management and supporting documentation has established direct complicity and active participation by Mr Umarou Mohamadou, Finance Clerk at the Zhoa Council, in committing and concealing consecutive acts of financial infractions , particularly: Abetting consecutive fraudulent financial reporting: Assisted in the reporting of irregular expenditure record to cover up underlying deficits”.

The mission head indicted Umarou of concealing the absence of critical accounting documents to obstruct the financial audit process as well as for deliberately suppressing knowledge of the absence of duly signed payment vouchers.

The now suspended Finance Clerk, was also accused of providing misleading information during official inquiries by the mission team.

“Given the severity of these acts of complicity, the intentional nature of the concealment and the critical threat posed to public funds and accounting integrity; considering the urgent necessity to preserve administrative order, and prevent any further manipulation of financial record;…without shielding him from further disciplinary or criminal liabilities, I request that you suspend Mr Umarou Mohamadou from his duties with immediate effect and relieve him of all financial operational and accounting responsibilities at the Zhoa Council for a period of three months,” the mission head concluded.
