The Bishop of Mamfe Diocese, His Lordship Dr Aloysius Fondong Abangalo, has officially opened a newly constructed ultra-modern hospital in Ntemndzem-Mmouck Leteh, Wabane subdivision in Lebialem division of the South West region.

Known as Divine Mercy Hospital, the imposing health facility with state-of-the-art medical equipment, was constructed with funds from the Catholic Church.

While inaugurating the hospital over the weekend, the Bishop of Mamfe diocese thanked God Almighty and all those who contributed to putting up the structure.

He said the health facility will lessen the burden of the people in the division who in the past, had to travel several kilometres to seek for healthcare services.

“As we cut this ribbon, we are saying that this place will remain open forever,” the bishop said, adding that “what the Lord has given us, let us rejoice and be happy and continue to pray”.

He added: “We have the hospital which is a wonderful gift to the community, a place where quality healthcare is assured. What comes next, only the Lord knows”.

The facility, the bishop stated, aims to ease equal access to quality and affordable healthcare services right at the doorsteps of members of the community.

He used the event to also urge the Mmouck Leteh people to make use of the education facilities the church has put up in the area.

“I have challenged our people to send their children to our nursery, primary and secondary schools, and of course, before we start thinking of tertiary education, let us first of all make use of the facilities we have,” the bishop urged.

Bishop Abangalo also announced the imminent construction of four additional classrooms at Catholic school Leteh to enable pupils study under a conducive environment.

Enter Mmouck Leteh Chief

The inauguration of the hospital took place in the presence of the traditional ruler of Mmouck Leteh, HRH Highness Chief Fotang VI and a host of dignitaries.

Chief Fotang VI expressed immense gratitude to the bishop for the countless development projects the Catholic Church has carried out over the years in the area, especially in the domains of education and health.

He assured them of his constant and consistent support. The population of Mmouck Leteh and its environs, estimated at over 18 000 people, will no longer have to travel long distances to seek medical attention in hospitals in and around Bafoussam, Bamenda and other towns, thanks to the newly inaugurated health facility.

Professor Ojuku Tiafack, a notable of Mmouck Leteh, seized the occasion to plead on the government to help construct and rehabilitate the poor road infrastructure to ease the circulation of persons and goods.

The people of Mmouck Leteh, through their traditional ruler Fotang VI, reaffirmed their commitment to work with the government, civil society, and private actors to promote peace and participatory development for the welfare of the entire population.

The occasion was marked by a Holy Mass to pray for peace, while traditional dances were staged by cultural groups.

It is one of the country’s producers of Irish potato, carrots and other market crops sold nationwide and within the CEMAC Sub-region.
