Dr Rosaline Obah: Tireless peace, rights promoter

Celebrated Cameroonian peace journalist and conflict transformation trainer, Dr Rosaline Akweba Obah, has been shortlisted for a prestigious international distinction. 

The recognition is for her consistency in courageously and tirelessly promoting peace, human rights, reconciliation and civil coexistence in Cameroon and beyond. 



The peace and community development specialist, cum columnist of The Guardian Post, was nominated for conferment of the Martin Luther King Peace Award, by the Scientific Committee of the Peace, Freedom and Human Rights International Award.

The award, in its second edition, is established by the Foundation for World Peace, founded by the International Academy Léopold Sédar Senghor of Arcore, Ital and the Academy of Arts and Philosophical Sciences of Bari, Italy.

Dr Rosaline Obah and other laureates will be presented the awards during a ceremony on September 19, 2026, at the Norman-Swabian Castle of Sannicandro di Bari, Italy.

The grandiose ceremony will unfold in the presence of institutional authorities, representatives of the cultural and academic world, and members of the civil society.

Members of the Scientific Committee of the Peace, Freedom and Human Rights International Award, said the initiative was established with the aim of “honouring those who, through their actions, have distinguished themselves in the promotion of fundamental human rights, offering a significant contribution to the creation of a more just and more compassionate world”. 

 

 

Why Dr Rosaline Obah has been nominated 

In a letter addressed to Dr Rosaline Obah, organisers said she has been singled out for distinction, in hoonour of her affirmation of equality among all human beings.

They said the international award is for her “courageous and tireless commitment to the promotion of peace, human rights, reconciliation and civil coexistence, through peace journalism, responsible communication and the strengthening of community media in contexts marked by conflict, social tensions and the vulnerability of civilian populations”. 

The work of Dr Rosaline Obah, carried out with profound dedication in Cameroon and internationally, as a corporate crisis management, peacebuilding, and gender/rights issues, organisers also said, “represents a significant example of how words, information and testimony can become instruments of dialogue, prevention of hatred, rebuilding of trust and defence of human dignity”. 

Organisers detailed that the award to be conferred on Dr Rosaline Obah, a national and international consultant in strategic communication, “is inspired by the universal values of peace, justice and equality”.

 

 

Zoom on Dr Rosaline Obah’s track record 

Dr Rosaline Obah is an accomplished and dedicated trainer/consultant, specialising in Peace Journalism, Do No Harm, and Conflict Transformation. 

With an impressive track record, spanning nearly two decades, Dr Obah is a leading advocate for peace and Gender-based Violence, GBV activism.

The exceptional communication professional also embodies a wealth of knowledge and experience in community development. 

Her tireless dedication and unwavering commitment have made her a prominent figure in the field of consistently striving for positive change and inspiring future generations of journalists.

Dr Obah is the Africa Regional Coordinator of the Rotary Peace Fellowship Alumni Association, RPFAAA. She is also a Certified Professional Mediator and GPLT Global PR Executive Head IEP Ambassador. 

With her extensive background in peace and conflict transformation, Dr Obah has contributed significantly to peacebuilding, social transformation and sustainable development initiatives across Africa and beyond, giving a voice to the marginalised and reach decision-makers. 

Over the years, the alumnus of the University of Buea’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, JMC, has occupied senior communications, advocacy and management positions in several organisations, leading regional and international programmes aimed at promoting dialogue, inclusion, institutional strengthening and lasting peace.

The erstwhile President of the Bamenda Chapter of the Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, and former National Coordinator of Cameroon Community Media Network, CCMN, has trained and inspired over 2,500 journalists, youth leaders, civil society actors and community stakeholders in peace journalism, non-violent communication and conflict transformation.

In her early days as a journalist after graduating from the University of Buea, Dr Obah volunteered with Eden, The Horizon newspapers and an online news portal, bamendaonline.net. 

She ran an incisive column on Children and Women’s Rights, in the newspapers she worked with. She also worked with the Communication Department of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, and later rose to the rank of Station Manager of the Christian Broadcasting Service, CBS radio in Bamenda.
