At SAGO: GM reaffirms CAMTEL’s commitment to protecting country's data.

In her presentation themed: "Protection of Public Data and Digital Sovereignty: The Zamengoé Data Center serving government action and Cameroon’s emergence", Judith Yah Sunday presented CAMTEL's contribution to the digital transformation of government action.

The CAMTEL boss told her audience that the theme of the conference was both straightforward in its wording and critical in its stakes. 

She, however, said behind the theme lies a central question on "where is the data stored that allows the State to function, administrations to serve, and citizens to be identified, supported, protected, and better cared for?". 

Speaking further, Judith Yah Sunday explained that: "Today, data is no longer just a computer file. It has become an asset. It is sometimes an identity, sometimes an administrative memory, sometimes a decision-making tool, and occasionally even a matter of national security". 

She was blunt that protecting public data therefore means protecting a part of the country's sovereignty. 

"It means protecting the trust of our citizens. It also ensures that the modernization of the State is built on solid, controlled, and secure foundations," she added. 

Judith Yah then noted that it was within the said perspective that CAMTEL's Data Center in Zamengoé takes on its full meaning.

The Data Center, she boasted, is not merely a technical infrastructure but strategic tool placed at the service of the State, public administrations, national institutions, and, more broadly, the Cameroonian digital ecosystem. 

She said the center embodies a clear ambition which is that of enabling Cameroon to possess, on its own soil, reliable capacities for hosting, securing, ensuring the continuity of, and maintaining control over its sensitive data.

"Digital sovereignty is not merely a concept. It is built step by step through infrastructure, skills, networks, technological choices and national commitment. It is also built through tools that provide concrete support to public administrations in their transformation," she continued. 

She said as Cameroon’s public telecommunications operator, CAMTEL intends to play its full role in this process. Judith Yah said her company's mission is not only to connect people, public administrations and territories but also to secure the digital foundations upon which modern public action rests.
