Bamenda: SHUMAS Director bags prestigious Climate Change Award.

The Director of the Strategic Humanitarian Services, SHUMAS, Yaah Bilan Nyuykighan Njodzeka, has been honoured with the prestigious Climate Change Award.

She was handed the award in Bamenda Friday, June 5.



The event coincided with the 53rd World Environment Day. Yaah Bilan was handed the award for her impact on climate change and mitigating its effects on humanity.

The award ceremony that took place at the conference hall of the Regional Delegation of Secondary Education for the North West.

It was organised by Climate Change Media Persons led by Tamukong Roland, publisher of World Echoes newspaper.

Organisers said the award was in recognition of her elastic strides made towards the fight against climate change and efforts to mitigate it.

Yaah Bilan, in appreciation of the award, indicated that receiving the award was a remarkable achievement for SHUMAS, a nongovernmental organisation that has been at the forefront of environmental protection for thirty years.

She revealed that SHUMAS began its first humanitarian activities in the area of environmental protection and later extended its tentacles to renewable energy solutions, sustainable management of natural resources, construction of schools, water and agricultural assistance to rural communities in Cameroon.

It should be noted that SHUMAS has for many years, directed its energy towards projects that are focused on planting environmentally friendly trees.

During the award, a 60-page climate change magazine was launched. The magazine is dedicated to climate change related issues. 

It was launched in the presence of climate change advocates, media actors and individuals who are concerned about the environment and the fight to rescue its degradation.

Stakeholders during the event called for joined efforts between government and climate change advocates to build a common fight against climate change and mitigate its effects on humanity and the environment.
