Mmockmbie Credit Union: On honour roll again for vibrancy, reliability.

MmoCCUL team brandishing award received from Chairman of ceremony

One of Cameroon’s fastest growing microfinance institutions, Mmockmbie Cooperative Credit Union, MmoCCUL, is once more in the spotlight for its leading role in the sector.

The microfinance institution and its leadership were Saturday, May 30, 2026, called to the podium.

This was during The Voice Decennial Trendsetters Awards night, which coincided with the 10th anniversary celebration of The Voice, one of Cameroon’s leading and most respected English-language newspapers.

During the award night, MmoCCUL was publicly declared Best Customer Service Microfinance lnstitution of the Season.

During same ceremony, its trailblazing General Manager, Ngezem Fortsomo Skyly, was decorated as an Icon of Managerial Savvy and Financial Expertise.

The major awards, organisers said, mark a glorious milestone for MmoCCUL, coming at a time the institution is enjoying breathtaking financial growth, rapid membership expansion, and sweeping institutional modernisation.

Well deserved, merited recognitions

According to organisers of the award, the first distinction celebrates MmoCCUL's meteoric rise as an absolute powerhouse in Cameroon's microfinance financial sector.

Through a relentless, everyday commitment to service excellence, MmoCCUL has successfully demystified financial access.

It has completely transformed from a local community entity into a dominant national force that empowers small entrepreneurs, hardworking families, and grassroots developers across the territory.

By consistently offering innovative, reliable, and user-centric financial solutions, the credit union has broken down old barriers.

It provides mouthwatering interest rates on savings and highly attractive rates on loans, effectively bridging the gap for the underserved population and breathing new life into local economies.

For a long time, traditional banking in Cameroon has been weighed down by rigid bureaucratic hurdles that stifle local growth.

MmoCCUL has completely shattered this old model by introducing flexible withdrawal options, easy account opening, and tailored micro-loans specifically designed for everyday civil servants, small-scale contractors, and local farmers.

This customer-first award from The Voice highlights a deeper reality that MmoCCUL does not see its clients as mere account numbers, but as vital partners in building shared wealth.

Whether serving a rural farmer or an urban entrepreneur, the Credit Union has established a gold standard for banking care, turning service quality into its strongest pillar of corporate growth.

GM steps out of madding crowd

As it is often said, an institution is only as strong as its leadership. The second award during The Voice award night directly recognised the mastermind behind MmoCCUL’s incredible success story.

The distinction of Icon of Managerial Savvy and Financial Expertise, was proudly conferred on the Credit Union’s General Manager, Ngezem Fortsomo Skyly, for his exceptional leadership and strategic acumen.

Ngezem’s masterful managerial skills have long been the core cornerstone of MmoCCUL’s absolute stability and aggressive growth.

He has not only mastered the technical mechanics of microfinance, but ultimately elevated the role of a corporate leader into that of a true microfinance guardian.

Through his strict commitment to operational excellence, rigorous integrity, and an innate ability to navigate complex economic landscapes, he has successfully steered MmoCCUL to unprecedented heights.

Under Ngezem’s direct leadership, the credit union has consistently prioritized member wealth through highly aggressive incentive programs.

For instance, following the excellent 2025 financial year, the Credit Union paid out an impressive 5% interest rate on savings to its growing membership.

To create even greater value, Ngezem committed to doubling this payout strategy. By scheduling this interest distribution twice within the year, MmoCCUL provides consistent liquidity and rewards the deep trust of its members.

Furthermore, his strategic foresight secured a vital salary code from the Ministry of Finance, which allows the union to serve state employees with maximum ease.

To support this massive expansion, Ngezem led a robust recruitment drive, adding 19 new staff members to bring the Union's total workforce to 67 dedicated professionals.

Awards backed by solid achievements

The said national awards to MmoCCUL, it should be said, are backed by solid and undeniable financial achievements. During the credit union's Annual General Meeting, AGM held in Dschang, a true story of resilience and vision unfolded.

The cooperative’s financial reports revealed that MmoCCUL’s balance sheet has soared to an unprecedented 8.3 billion FCFA by the end of the 2025 fiscal year. This represents an incredible leap from the over 4,778,909,202 FCFA recorded in 2024.

The massive surge in assets is a clear testament to the prudent financial management practiced by Ngezem and his team, and the absolute trust that the population places in the institution.

As the balance sheet climbed, the membership base experienced an equally spectacular boom. The total number of registered members skyrocketed from 10,002 to 13,940 within just twelve months—representing a massive 39% increase.

The rapid growth highlights the credit union’s crucial role as an indispensable economic lifeline for thousands of families and businessmen across Cameroon.

MmoCCUL’s commitment to premium customer service was recently made visible through the strategic relocation and revamping of its vital Messassi branch in the nation’s capital, Yaoundé and the opening of a new branch in Kribi.

To comfortably serve thousands of rapidly growing members, Ngezem announced the relocation of the branch to a much more spacious and strategic facility.

The branch is now located at the Dispensaire Messassi, precisely 20 meters before the Neptune petrol station on the highway leading directly to Olembe.

This "marketing imposing" location was carefully chosen to dominate a high-traffic corridor and provide world-class access and banking convenience for members living in Santa Barbara and surrounding neighborhoods.

Simultaneously, the credit union has pushed forward with major infrastructural developments, including the completion of its modern architectural head office building in the Damas neighbourhood in Yaounde designed to deliver an elite banking experience. The spectacular rise of MmoCCUL is also deeply anchored in solid democratic governance.

New leadership, fresh impetus

During the last AGM, a refreshed Board of Directors was elected to steer the credit union forward. Prof Nkiendem Felix emerged as the new Board Chairman, stepping into his role with a bold pledge of unwavering collaboration.

Prof Nkiendem has already vowed to expand the union's physical and economic footprint by overseeing the construction of a dedicated branch office building in the economic hub of Douala before the end of his mandate.

Joining him on this governance journey are new board members Nkemazap Geratus, Anangafac Ernest, Asonganya Marcus, and Lemonge Norbert. The smooth transition of power was marked by deep gratitude.

Outgone Board Chair, Changeh George, had challenged the new leadership to maintain the visionary stewardship and integrity that fueled the union's rise.

In a moving tribute to MmoCCUL's origins, the "Visionary Leader Award" was presented to the pioneer board members who took the first courageous steps when the now 6.6 billion FCFA empire was just a small dream.

As MmoCCUL prepares for its own grand 10th-anniversary celebrations in July 2026, the General Manager has laid out a highly ambitious strategic roadmap.

The credit union has set its sights on a 40% increase in total savings and deposits, alongside a 25% growth in new accounts through upcoming branches in Douala and Kribi.

In this era of rapid digital transformation, MmoCCUL is prioritising modern technology integration through the acquisition of GIMAC cards.

This digital upgrade will allow members to enjoy seamless, real-time electronic transactions, beautifully bridging the gap between traditional cooperative values and modern banking convenience.
