Cup of Cameroon: SW to stage semifinals of regional preliminaries Saturday.

The semifinals of the South West regional preliminaries of the Cup of Cameroon will be played on Saturday, May 23, with Mount Cameroon Football Club of Buea and Best Stars Academy of Limbe set to headline the matches. 



Mount Cameroon which is chasing its first trophy in the national challenge cup showpiece since its surprise victory in the 2002 edition, will lock horns with Elecsport of Limbe.

Best Stars will be up against Options Sports Academy of Limbe in the second of two final four fixtures where the winners will automatically qualify for the nationwide round of 32 finals of the Cup competition.

Both matches will be played at the Middle Farm Stadium in Limbe. Mt Cameroon qualified after registering a hard-fought 5-4 victory over CINYODEV Football Academy in round two of the preliminaries.

The one-time title holder and the CINYODEV team were separated in post-match penalties after they settled for a goalless draw on regular time. Elecsports qualified after humbling Aljazeera Sport Academy 5nil in the second round. 

Best Stars sailed through following a 2-1 victory over fellow Fako Division team, Buea City FC. Their opponents, city rivals, Option Sports qualified following a similar victory over Talented Football Academy.

The losers of the two matches are expected to face off in a third-placed playoff with the winner going through as representative three of the South West Region in the round of 32 finals.

The winners of the two semifinal games will also matchup in the final to determine representatives one and two of the region for the round 32 series. 

The three teams that will qualify will join the zone’s two Elite championship teams; Kumba City Football Club and Victoria United of Limbe who are already qualified for the round 32 phase owing to their elite status.

The first representative of the region, the winner of the regional preliminaries, will go ahead to face 2016 champions, Apejes of Mfou in the 32 finals. 

The second representative will be up against current Elite One championship leaders and 2012 Cup winners, Unisport of Upper Nkam while the third representative battles 2018 champions Eding Sport of Lekie.

Victoria United will be up against Riziere of Noun from the West Region while Kumba City will face the yet-to-be-determined representative four of the Centre Region.
