National Assembly: Number of deceased MPs rises to 21!.

The Member of Parliament, MP, for the Upper Nkam Constituency in the West Region, Hon Claude Juimo Siewe Monthé, has passed on. The lawmaker, The Guardian Post gathered, passed on Saturday, April 4, 2026, in Yaounde.



The lawmaker under the banner of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party, reportedly died in a hospital in Yaounde; after suffering from an illness. 

His death has brought the number of MPs who have died under the current legislature to 21. 

Hon Juimo Monthe became a Parliamentarian in 2013. He served as a member of the Committee on Economic Affairs, Planning, and Regional Development, at the National Assembly. He was also a member of the CPDM Central Committee. 

Born in Douala on December 18, 1961, Claude Juimo Monthé was the eldest son of Luc Monthé, a former Deputy Mayor of Douala, who died in 1986. 

After completing studies in France and Canada, he returned home to head the family business in 1987. He contributed to the restructuring of the Monthé group, which is now managed by his brother, Emmanuel Monthé Siewe and his sister, Gisèle Monthé Noutong.

In 1998, Claude Monthé was appointed to head the Cameroon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, CCIMA, by presidential decree. He held the position untill 2008. 

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bolloré Group, and Chairman of the board of SOCAPALM, PRODICAM SA, Hôtel Parfait Garden SA, SFC SA, Palmraff SA and Konte SA until June 2012.

The deceased MP was father of several children. He died on the same day the Congress of Parliament adopted the bill amending some provisions of the January 18, 1996 Constitution, reintroducing the post of Vice President of the Republic. The National Assembly is yet to issue a statement on his demise.

He is the first MP to die since Hon Datouo Theordore was elected last month to succeed Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djribil, as Speaker of the National Assembly.
