FEICOM commits to fair, inclusive water management.

Camille Philippe Akoa: Director General of FEICOM

The management of the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, has reiterated its commitment to equitable and responsible water management, underscoring that easy access to clean water is one of the levers of enforcing gender parity.

According to FEICOM Director General, Camille Philippe Akoa, ensuring access to water for women and girls, is tantamount to promoting equality and preserving the precious resource for future generations.

Speaking on the occasion of the 2026 edition of World Water Day, that was marked on March 22, he called on decentralized collectivities all over the nation to continue to work towards universal access to water, today and for generations to come, but more importantly for girls and women.
Akoa reminded grassroots actors that access to safe water is a fundamental human right, with emerging challenges like the impact of climate change, requiring all stakeholders to be more alert and appreciate the urgent need to protect, conserve, and fairly distribute this finite resource.

Reflecting on this year’s theme: “Water and Gender Equality: A "Watershed", Akoa said the theme calls for integrating water security into national planning, reforming policies, and "watering" the global financial system to properly value water.

He asserted that global leaders warn that water scarcity is a matter of national survival, requiring urgent action on conservation and reducing pollution.

Because water is an essential, limited resource indispensable for health and daily life, its availability in good quantity and quality should not be treated as a luxury, he insisted.

The FEICOM boss was in accord with the view that if millions of people take small actions like fixing leaks so as to conserve water, it can create a massive positive impact.

He reminded grassroots actors, and Cameroonians in general that millions of people across the world and in the country still suffer from lack of safe water and sanitation, from which they contact diseases, resulting in preventable deaths.

He encouraged actors to conserve water and advocate for its protection in their communities.

He concluded with the following quotes: "Where water flows, equality grows"; "If we save water today, water will save us tomorrow”; “Water is Life. Every drop counts"; and "Investment in water is an investment in dignity, equality, public health, and sustainable development”.
