Tchiroma announces imminent return to Cameroon!.

Tchiroma speaking online on Sunday

The self-exiled leader of the Cameroon National Salvation Front, FSNC, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who is still contesting President Paul Biya’s victory at the October 12, 2025 presidential poll, has announced he is preparing to return home.

Tchiroma broke the silence in an outing on Sunday, March 15, 2026. The former minister-turned staunch Biya challenger, was speaking in the course of an online broadcast staged to honour the memory of Georges Anicet Ekane, who died on December 1, 2025, in detention. The politician’s death was connection to the same presidential poll.

According to the FSNC leader, he is actively preparing to return to Cameroon to continue with the duties for which he was voted to exercise in the country.

Tchiroma, who is enjoying refuge in the West African nation of The Gambia, said even before setting foot in his country, he already feels he is in Cameroon.

“…I consider that I am already in Cameroon,” he quipped, before declaring that: “There is something we have not understood for long that individually, we are the masters of our collective destinies”.

He thundered that: “…I was not voted to be where I am today. I am where I am today to protect my life”.

The longtime politician indicated that “…I am in the process of returning to Cameroon to exercise my responsibility”.

He recalled that in the heat of the post-election tension, he received threats “…right in my house and they put snipers at a neighbours house”.

“We picked bullets. I released an audio message from my house that there were massacring people in front of my house…So, I am here to protect myself…,” he stated.

“I have a team besides me that is working daily and monthly to see that something is done to ensure the will of the people is respected. I have to organise to concretise the will of the people…,” Tchiroma intimated.

He also expressed gratitude to the Diaspora for supporting him, singling out those who voted for him but urged compatriots leaving abroad to tighten their belts.

Tchiroma asserted that they may have voted for him but making their choice real is the challenge that lies ahead.

“I would have been killed if…”

Going by the former Government Spokesman, if the Biya regime had laid hands on him while the post-election crisis was ongoing, he would have been history today.

He gave to understanding that he would have been put in detention and forced so sign something.

“…it sufficed for them to prevent me from taking my medications for two months and that will be it…,” the former Minister of Employment and Vocational Training stated.

“The fight continues…”

The FSNC leader sounded defiant, insisting that the battle to get rid of the Biya regime is far from being over.

“…the fight continues, and we are winning because I am alive and I have my freedom. If I had stayed in Cameroon, there would have been talking about me now in the past or I would have been in detention,” he indicated.

The man who came second in the presidential poll, securing over 1.6 million votes, according to official results, charged Cameroonians to defeat fear. He criticised the regime in place for instrumentalising violence and threats.

He likened his battle against the regime he once worked for, as being Divine. “…Cameroonians are waiting for me. I am doing fine, my mission is Divine…,” he said, noting that: “Today, everyone knows that violence and threats are what they are using to hold back the people…”.
