Chadian national carrier, Royal Airlines, will soon start flying passengers on the Douala-N’Djamena route, management announced recently.

Officials say the move would mark a decisive transformation in air transport within the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, CEMAC.

Previously flying only domestic routes within Chad, the management said during a recent press conference in Douala that the extension is part of a broader effort to strengthen regional connections.

The move, officials said, would boost trade and business travel in an area widely perceived as long underserved by air transport links.

Management promised prospective travellers that the company’s Cameroon subsidiary will operate several weekly flights between the two economic capitals with effect from the second quarter of this year.

Officials said the principal objective is offer a reliable service, tailored to meet the needs of business travelers, families and corporate partners operating within the subregion.

“The creation of this branch is driven by a dual strategy, firstly, Royal Airways intends to capture a share of the growing traffic between the two countries, and secondly, to further improve air connections within the Central African Economic and Monetary Community,” management stated.

For Cameroon authorities, the Chadians disclosed that the development is seen by authorities in Yaounde as a positive sign for the country’s attractiveness as an air transport hub in the sub region.

The investors announced that Cameroon’s Minister of Transport, welcomed the initiative, believing that it could strengthen economic flows and facilitate the mobility of the populations of the two countries.

Touching on security and safety, the officials vouched that the relevant services would ensure that safety and security standards are fully respected before the flights begin carrying passengers.

Royal Airways officials also indicated that the new subsidiary would not be limited to operating the Douala-N’Djamena route.

It was disclosed that studies were underway to eventually extend service to other regional capitals, in coordination with the civil aviation authorities of the countries concerned.

“This ambition comes amid a recovery in air traffic in Africa following the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, with renewed interest from local airlines in intra-African routes,” management further stated.

They announced that the expansion of Royal Airways’ network comes at a time when several air transport operators in Central Africa are seeking to diversify their services and meet a growing demand for mobility.

The company has promised potential travelers and economic operators that the upcoming launch of the route would not only reduce the current strain of travelling between the two countries, but could facilitate travel and help boost trade between Cameroon and Chad Republic.
