Nwa Subdivision: Suspected armed Fulanis invade Mbat village, set homes ablaze!.

Several residents of Mbat village in Nwa Subdivision, Donga Mantung Division in the North West Region, last Saturday fled the locality, following an attack reportedly orchestrated by suspected Fulani militiamen.

Following the violent overnight attack, several homes in Mbat village were set ablaze by the invaders.

Though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, The Guardian Post learned that the suspected Fulani militiamen, believed to be behind the onslaught, allegedly crossed in from Nigeria.

According to information gathered, the attackers stormed the village at nightfall, positioning themselves at different entrances.

Their movements, however, were noticed by a vigilant villager who quickly raised an alarm. The early warning saved lives though several homes were set ablaze.

According to an online news platform, Romi Info, residents fled from Upper Mbat to Lower Mbat, hoping to find safety.

But the assailants set Upper Mbat ablaze before advancing to Lower Mbat, burning houses and forcing helpless families to run into the bushes under the cover of darkness.

Following the attack, both Upper and Lower Mbat were reportedly reduced to ashes.

According to locals, men, women, children, and the elderly are now hiding in surrounding forests without food, shelter, or medical assistance.

Last Saturday’s attack in Nwa Subdivision wasn’t the first to have been orchestrated by suspected armed Fulanis in the area.

In February 2021, suspected armed Fulani herdsmen had reportedly attack, killed, and set houses ablaze in some villages in Nwa.

The attack then followed growing tensions between Fulani herders and locals of Nyang, Ntong 1, and Ngang villages in Nwa Subdivision.

During the attacked then, the suspected Fulani herdsmen stormed the villages, killing at least five persons. Houses and markets were also set ablaze.

“They have killed already five people. Apart from the two fathers who were killed on their sickbed, my elder sister’s two houses around the market square have also been burnt completely with everything inside and she is a widow,” a native of Nwa said following the attack.
