Yango spotlights outstanding drivers through its “Heroes on the Road” campaign in Cameroon.

Every day in Cameroon, particularly in the cities of Douala and Yaounde, thousands of rides begin and end quietly. A pickup, a destination, a goodbye.

Yet behind many of these journeys are rarely told stories of resilience, ambition, and professionalism that shape everyday mobility in Cameroon.

It is these stories that Yango Ride set out to highlight through its Heroes on the Road campaign, an initiative designed to spotlight remarkable partner drivers and shift the narrative around ride-hailing by focusing on the people behind the wheel.

Spotlighting the people behind the wheel

Implemented across Douala and Yaounde, the Heroes on the Road campaign aimed to give visibility to drivers whose daily efforts often go unnoticed.

Through a series of five short documentary-style videos, Yango followed four partner drivers and one fleet partner, capturing their journeys, routines, and most memorable experiences on the road.

To bring these stories to life, Yango collaborated with Boris Skilcat, a content creator known for his storytelling-driven approach focused on the urban transport sector.

Through on-the-ground interview formats—particularly with drivers—Boris Skillcat served as the presenter and interviewer of the campaign, meeting Yango partner drivers on the roads of Douala and Yaoundé to capture their stories in an authentic and engaging way.

Shot in an interview-style format, the videos offered an authentic look into a “day in the life” of Yango drivers — from their motivations and challenges to the meaningful moments they share with passengers. By letting drivers tell their stories in their own words, Yango sought to humanise urban mobility and highlight the professionalism that underpins the service.

Changing perceptions, one ride at a time

Ms. Ndem Pauline Jenny, a young woman living in Douala, is one of the “Heroes on the Road” who shares her adventures on social media under the alias Madame Yango

For her, being a Yango driver means challenging long-held perceptions. When she first started, reactions from friends and passengers were often the same surprise. “People are usually shocked when they see a woman driving,” she explains. “Many didn’t know women could be Yango drivers”.

Over time, that surprise has turned into admiration. For Madame Yango, the most rewarding part of the job is knowing that every ride helps change how people view women in the mobility space, inspiring others simply by showing up and doing her job with confidence and professionalism.

Another featured Hero on the road is Mr. Pouemegne Jackson, represents a different but equally powerful reality of life as a Yango partner driver. Having joined the platform since its launch in Cameroon, his journey reflects consistency and long-term impact.

In 2024, Mr Jackson was able to finance his wedding entirely through the income he earned as a Yango driver — a milestone he describes as his most remarkable achievement on the platform.

His story highlights how ride-hailing can provide not just daily earnings, but real opportunities for financial planning and personal growth. Video link https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSawj9jg5/

From passenger to partner

Heroes on the Road also highlighted the journey of Madam Adeline, founder of BLUE MOOVE, a Yango fleet partner. Her story began not as a business owner, but as a regular Yango user.

Over time, she transitioned from passenger to partner, building BLUE MOOVE into a fleet with vehicles and drivers fully integrated into the Yango ecosystem.

Her journey illustrates how individuals can move beyond using the platform to actively building within it, creating opportunities for themselves and for drivers they onboard. Video Link https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSawjFxv1/

Rebuilding trust and celebrating everyday heroes

Through real stories and authentic voices, Heroes on the Road encouraged positive conversations between passengers and drivers, helping to reinforce trust and appreciation within the ride-hailing space.

While challenges exist, the campaign reminds users that many drivers consistently deliver safe, respectful, and professional service every day.

The initiative culminated at Yango’s end-of-year celebration, where outstanding drivers were officially recognised for their dedication and commitment to service excellence. More than a moment of recognition, it was a celebration of the everyday heroes who keep cities moving.

Through Heroes on the Road, Yango continues to affirm its commitment to a more human-centred, inclusive mobility experience — one that values the stories, efforts, and ambitions of the people behind every ride.
