To improve nutrition: Health minister, Action Against Hunger discuss strengthening partnership.

L-R: Tidiane Fall & Minister Manaouda during exchange

The Minister of Public Health, Dr Manaouda Malachie, has met with the new Country Director of the non-governmental organisation, Action Against Hunger, Tidiane Fall, to review and strengthen areas of collaboration aimed at improving health and nutrition in Cameroon.

This was at the centre of an audience the minister granted Tidiane Fall and his delegation on Friday, January 30.

Discussions focused on Action Against Hunger’s ongoing commitment as a key partner in the country’s health and nutrition sector and on aligning strategic priorities with those of the Ministry of Public Health.

Other key points discussed were the need to define clear priorities for cooperation and to formalise partnerships through the signing of an agreement involving ten partner ministries.

This framework, we gathered, is expected to clarify areas of collaboration and outline concrete actions to be pursued in the coming years, particularly in the fight against malnutrition and related health challenges affecting vulnerable populations.

Tidiane expressed gratitude to the staff of the Ministry of Public Health for their availability and continuous support. He noted that regular exchanges with government authorities help better guide and strengthen Action Against Hunger’s interventions across the country.

According to him, such dialogue is essential for ensuring that humanitarian and development actions remain aligned with national health policies.

A major highlight of the meeting was the finalisation of the delivery of 10,500 boxes of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food, RUTF.

The consignment, funded by the United States government, is intended to support the nutritional care of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in health facilities and community programmes nationwide.

Dr Manaouda Malachie welcomed the constructive nature of the discussions and expressed satisfaction with the progress made.

He reaffirmed the government’s willingness to continue and deepen this strategic partnership with Action Against Hunger in order to enhance the quality of healthcare services and strengthen nutrition interventions.

Both parties at the close of the meeting pledged to maintain close collaboration, with a shared goal of improving the health and wellbeing of Cameroonian children and vulnerable communities through coordinated and sustainable actions.
