Preparations are gathering momentum as Yaounde gets set to host the 23rd International Congress and Exhibition of the African Water and Sanitation Association, AfWASA.

Scheduled to open on February 9 at the Yaounde Conference Centre, the high-level meeting is expected to bring together experts, policymakers, development partners and private sector stakeholders from across the African continent and beyond.

The congress, hosted under the leadership of AfWASA President, Dr Blaise Moussa, who also serves as Director General of the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation, CAMWATER.

The congress according to stakeholders is being billed as a strategic platform to advance sustainable solutions for Africa’s water and sanitation challenges.

They say the event will position Africa at the forefront of innovative approaches to water resource management, sanitation infrastructure and climate resilience.

Aware of the scale and importance of the gathering, Dr Blaise Moussa and his close collaborators over the weekend conducted a series of working visits to the Yaounde Conference Centre.

The visits, he said were aimed at assessing the level of preparedness of the site and ensuring that all infrastructure, from conference halls to exhibition areas, meets international standards.

According to Dr Moussa, the objective is to provide an optimal and professional working environment for the thousands of delegates and decision-makers expected to attend.

For CAMWATER officials, the organisation of this year’s congress has received the endorsement of the Head of State, President Paul Biya, a gesture widely seen as a strong signal of the country’s commitment to addressing issues of access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.

The high-level institutional backing, we gathered, is expected to enhance the security, prestige and international visibility of the event, while amplifying the impact of discussions and resolutions adopted.

With the countdown underway, registration is ongoing for participants eager to share experiences, acquire new knowledge and build partnerships.

Advertisers and partners have also been invited to secure exhibition booths, offering them an opportunity to align their brands with one of Africa’s most influential water and sanitation forums.
