Dschang Cliff landslide: Another victim recovered from debris one year after.

Remains recovered from debris

The remains of a 77-year-old woman in an advanced state of decomposition, identified as Manekeu Djoufack Régine, has been recovered from the Dschang Cliff landslide site, over one year after the disaster struck.

Her corpse is said to have been removed from the debris on Monday, January 12, 2026.

This was during rehabilitation works currently underway at the Dschang Cliff.

The discovery brings the official recorded death toll of the November 5, 2024, landslide to 14.

The body was uncovered during an operation in the presence of administrative and security authorities. Officials on site included the Divisional Officer, DO, of Dschang, the Second Assistant to the Divisional Officer, and the forces of law and order tasked with securing the area.

Acting on the instructions of the Mayor of Dschang, Jacquis Kemleu, the hygiene and sanitation service of the council is said to have been immediately alerted to carry out the extraction of the body from the debris.

According to officials, the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition and identification was made possible, thanks to her clothing and personal belongings, including a handbag containing her mobile phone, the sum of 5,000 FCFA and other personal belongings.

The victim’s family, said to have been present at the site, confirmed her identity before the remains were transferred to the medical examiner at the Dschang Regional Hospital Annex.

The Head of the Dschang Municipal Hygiene and Sanitation Service, Nangmo Hubert, and his team are said to have been swiftly mobilised and after standard procedures, the body was transported to Litieu in Foreké-Dschang and handed over to the family for burial; under strict hygienic conditions.

Worthy to recall that the victim had been swallowed by the earth during the deadly landslide of the Dschang Cliff while returning from farm alongside her daughter.

The daughter’s body had been recovered during the initial search operations shortly after the disaster, leaving the family in mourning.

A relative, reported to have been present at the scene, is said to have noted that over a year after the disappearance of their mother, they are receiving her remains with mixed emotions.

A total of 14 bodies have now been officially recovered from the cliff. As rehabilitation works continue, several families remain in waiting, hoping that further efforts will bring answers about loved ones still buried beneath the debris.
