Yaounde: Customs department presents 2026 roadmap to media.

The customs department has unveiled its roadmap for 2026 to the media family in Yaounde. This was during its annual press dinner organised Friday, January 9, at the annexe office of the Directorate General of Customs.



Attended by journalists from print, online, broadcast partner media organs, the meeting was chaired by the Director of Information and Communication Unit at the Directorate General of Customs, Jean Claude Ekoube, on behalf of the Customs DG, Fongod Edwin. 

The meeting was an occasion for customs officials to explain the institution’s targets for 2026. The director of communications expressed gratitude to the media partners for constantly giving visibility to the customs department as well as sensitizing the population on its activities.

He explained the Customs is committed to reinforce its working relations the media to ensure a smooth flow of information for the public’s interest.

Ekoube said the Customs has the audacious task of mobilising over 1,243.2 billion FCFA for the State in 2026. 

Looking at revenue records for the previous years, Ekoube expressed optimism and hope in the leadership of the Customs in improving. 

He noted that measures are already being deployed across the different customs sectors to achieve the desired revenue for the State this year.

He reiterated the Customs’ commitment to fight smuggling, trafficking, fraud, circulation of arms and ammunition, illicit pharmaceutics and preserve local businesses.

A number of provisions related to the customs legislation in the 2026 Finance Law were also brought to the attention of the media during the meeting.

The provisions, Ekoube said, touch on support to the priority public health sector, green energy promotion, persons with disabilities, road infrastructures, the development of training centres and promotion of digital economy. 

Perspectives of the 2026 Finance Law on Customs duties and taxes, clearance procedure and handling of goods, use of disruptive technologies were also discussed.

Ekoube also briefed the media on the implementation of the harmonised ECCAS-CEMAC Customs Code and common external tariff.
