The finals of the 2021/2022 senior men and women handball championship in Cameroon will take place today Thursday October 20.
The games, billed for the Mfandena Sports Complex in Yaounde, will have FAP handball team and Fondation Andre Nziko, FANZ matching up in what is expected to be a remake of the 2022 Handball Cup of Cameroon final.
Today’s finals are expected to get underway with the women’s category billed for 4pm.
FAP qualified to the final after bagging two wins and a defeat in the first round of the play-off phase. The team recorded its lone defeat to FANZ in a 24-17 defeat yesterday Wednesday October 19 in what is tipped to be morale-booster for FANZ in the build-up to the crucial final.
Despite Wednesday’s collapse, FAP team captain, Michelle Essam, declared her side will be looking forward to successfully realise their dream for a domestic double birthed after their Handball Cup of Cameroon crown.
“I think no game is the same. Our opponents were more motivated to win unlike us even though it’s also true we saw the game as that which had no stakes. The final is going to be a challenge for us. We will face the final game with more engagement and more serenity. Our target this season is to win a domestic double,” the skipper stated.
Playmaker, Christelle Ndongo, declared similar intentions, tagging the game as a veritable strength-proving ground for the FAP side which recently shined at the 2022 African Handball Championship in Tunisia.
“The final will be a very complicated one which is the main reason we have to work hard. It’s going to be like a return leg of the Cup final,” the youngster noted.
