ELECAM finetunes preparations for November 30 Regional Elections.

Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, has intensified operational, institutional and supervisory measures to ensure November 30 Regional Elections is transparent, credible and peaceful. 

Discussions to this effect were held during the 5th plenary session of the Electoral Board, which held on November 21.



The session, convened in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Code, marked the final step in assessing the state of preparedness for the elections. It brought together members of the Electoral Board and senior operational staff.

In his opening statement, Dr Enow Abrams stated that it was with a renewed sense of purpose that ELECAM approaches the decisive phase of the election. 

“Our responsibility remains clear: to ensure a credible, transparent, inclusive, and peaceful election,” he asserted, adding that the institution is guided by the republican duty entrusted to it by the legislator.

Another major highlight of the session was the confirmation of the training of ten regional supervisory commissions, as required by Article 263 of the Electoral Code. 

Once fully adopted, he noted that the commissions will shoulder the exclusive responsibility of proclaiming the results of the Regional Elections in utmost precision, neutrality, and adherence to legal standards.

“The fulfillment of this legal obligation marks a decisive step in consolidating the organisational framework for the regional elections,” Dr Enow Abrams noted. 

He stressed that ensuring uniform application of national norms and legal procedures across all regions is indispensable to the credibility of the electoral process.

 

Announces nationwide supervisory tour 

Dr Enow Abrams said in in a bid to reinforce field monitoring, ELECAM has adopted the terms of reference for a nationwide supervision mission scheduled from November 24 to December 4. 

He said members of the Electoral Board will visit all 58 Divisional headquarters to observe campaign activities, assess logistical readiness, and ensure compliance with electoral laws ahead of voting day.

“This nationwide mission aims to guarantee the smooth running of the election campaign and supervise voting operations on polling day,” he said. 

ELECAM’s presence on the ground, he added, will serve both as a preventive measure against irregularities and as assurance to the public of its commitment to transparency.

 

Calls for vigilance, impartiality, republican commitment

He stated that as campaign intensifies, there is need for ELECAM personnel to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. Dr Enow Abrams called on Electoral Board members and operational managers to demonstrate self-sacrifice, insight and republican commitment in the final stretch of the process.

“We must exercise increased vigilance, impartiality, independence, and availability,” he warned, stressing that any behaviour capable of undermining the integrity of the election must be preemptively addressed.

He further stressed on the importance of continuous improvement within the electoral management body, stating that building a credible and inclusive electoral model requires constant reflection, lessons learned from past experiences, and unwavering patriotism.

He encouraged all personnel to maintain the momentum and demonstrate renewed dedication as the election day approaches. 

“It is through selflessness, insight, and republican commitment that we shall achieve the short-, medium-, and long-term goals we have set,” he affirmed.

According to updates presented by the Director General of Elections at ELECAM, the institution’s Divisional branches are fully operational, ballot papers and campaign documents have been printed, and logistics including materials distribution and deployment mechanisms are nearing completion.
