P&T minister says distinction as African champion will further transform CAMPOST.

Post & Telecommunication minister, Libom Li Likeng addressing the press yesterday

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng has revealed that the recent award bagged by Cameroon as the best performing nation in the development of the postal service sector in Africa, will further boost the growth of the country’s national postal service provider, CAMPOST.

The minister made the declaration during a press briefing in Yaounde on yesterday.

The presser was organised to present the award from the United Nations-led Universal Postal Union.

Cameroon grabbed the award early this month in recognition of its excellence in developing the sector.

According to the minister, the distinction handed to Cameroon on October 7, will play a great role in further boosting the development of the postal service which has witnessed massive growth in recent years under CAMPOST.

The honor as Africa's champion in postal excellence in the UPU's ranking which works as the integrated index for postal development, Minister Li Likeng stated, will contribute to helping Cameroon set higher standards geared towards maintaining the status through more development-oriented projects especially in the digital.

“With this distinction, the country has no choice but to improve. There is no way of coming back which means CAMPOST and the government are obliged to stay at the top,” Minister Li Likeng declared.

“Things have changed at CAMPOST. People consider the structure to be struggling when looking at it from the outside. But things have completely changed now because we have a performant operator.

The aim of the government is that Cameroon will be a key actor in the development of the digital economy. And to be a key actor, the contact plan addresses the regulation and even capacity building of human resources,” Minister Libom Li Likeng said yesterday.
