Some eight trainees of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, Peace and Justice Center, PJC, have pledged to take peace building initiatives down to local communities. The trainees made the pledge at the end of a two-day defense in Buea.

The exercise was supervised by PJC Provost, Acha Henrietta, and Registrar, Ngalle Nelson Smith. The National Coordinator for the Civil Peace Service, Ntui Oben Obi Agbor, attended the event. The academic exercise marked the end of a three-month intensive programme characterised by lectures and practical lessons.

Speaking at the end of the defense, one of the PJC trainees, Tabot Bawolin, said the training programme was intensive as they have been engaged in both classroom lessons and practical exercises on peace building and conflict transformation amongst other.

Saluting the quality of the training received at PJC, Tabot said the training was a stepping stone in their careers.

“I defended on empowering persons with disabilities and fostering mental wellness in Bamenda. After this, I feel that I have accomplished a new mile stone in my life that I will like to implement,” the trainee stated.

He further vowed they will put into practice knowledge gained during the programme and showcase their skills in understanding problems affecting communities, draw road maps on how the problems can be solved.

Besides problem solving skills, the PCC PJC Provost hope that they will be able to source for project grants for the different issues treated during their defense exercise.

“Before the trainees come out with this project, they had undergone six months training and so we deem it necessary for them to end the project with this defense because they are going back for community intervention,” she said.

The provost added that: “The projects that they have presented here today, most of them are so beautiful that needs just some little adjustments and can even help them to get funding from international and local funders”.

On his part, the National Coordinator for the Civil Peace Service explained that defense exercise was intended to bring the trainees closer to project work and to assess their level of mastery of community development.

“I'm really proud of what PCC PJC trainees are doing. They're doing a wonderful job. They have been able to write on key developmental issues trying to address the problems faced in the different communities, writing about the problem of water, peace amongst other issues,” Ntui Oben appraised.

Created since 2022, the PCC Peace and Justice Center has been committed in imbibing the peace virtues through practical modalities which has seen over 100 peace ambassadors preaching and building peace across different communities.
