Tubah Subdivision: Amba fighters attack Mosque, kill three, injure nine, kidnap many.

Simon Emile Mooh: Mezam SDO

Gunmen, suspected to be Amba fighters, last Friday, November 14, stormed a Mosque in Sabga, Tubah Subdivision, Mezam Division, in the North West Region. They opened fire on worshipers.

The attack led to the death of three persons. Nine others are reported to have been injured in the course of the shootings.

The gunmen are said to have also kidnapped several persons who were later rescued through the intervention of defence and security forces.

The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Mezam Division, Simon Emile Mooh, has strongly condemned the deadly attack.

Mooh described the incident as a “reprehensible act of lawlessness” against innocent civilians.

In a press release, the SDO expressed profound sadness over the killings and extended condolences, on behalf of the Head of State, to the bereaved families and the Sabga Muslim community.

The administrator also reassured the population that defence and security forces are conducting a diligent manhunt to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The attack, carried out at about 2p.m., took place while the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon, His Grace Jose Avelino Bettencourt, was in Bamenda for the rededication of the Metropolitan Cathedral.

The injured were transported to the Bamenda Regional Hospital, where the cost of their treatment is being fully covered by the government, according to the SDO.

The Sabga shooting has further deepened fears in Tubah Subdivision, once known for its serenity and for hosting the University of Bamenda.

The community has expressed outrage, with some residents comparing the act to “drinking poison and expecting one’s enemy to suffer”.

“You can’t be killing your own and expect your enemy to feel the pain,” Yaya Buba, a Muslim faithful in Bamenda, is quoted as having said.

While accusing fingers are pointing at Amba fighters around the area, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Before residents of Tubah could recover from the shock, another violent incident occurred at Four Corners Bambui.

Gunmen opened fire, killing a coffin dealer known as Kingsley, popularly called Eke, and abducted a local bar owner. Witnesses said the attackers stopped a vehicle and seized its occupants, leaving the area in fear.

The violence followed the killing of four gendarmes on Saturday, November 8, 2025; near Door Market, above Bambili.

In less than a week, at least eight people have lost their lives to suspected attacks in Tubah Subdivision.

While authorities are said to have increased security checkpoints, some residents complain that a few uniformed officers appear more focused on personal gain than protecting the lives of citizens.

Others however acknowledge that the increased presence of security forces has helped maintain some stability.
