Fabian Ekukwe Lyonga: Cameroon Diaspora Youth Network president

The President of the Cameroon Diaspora Youth Network, CDYN, Fabian Ekukwe Lyonga, has called for calm, insisting on the respect of the sovereignty of Cameroon as the country awaits the proclamation of the results of the October 12 presidential election.

The US-based Cameroonian, in a statement issued October 21, days to the proclamation of the results of the hotly contested presidential poll, strongly appealed to all Cameroonian youth, both at home and abroad, to embrace peace, reject manipulation, and uphold national unity.

Lyonga was categorical that violence has never been a solution to political disputes. He warned that “the presence of violence often leads to the loss of innocent lives, and no political ambition should ever cost the life of a Cameroonian youth”.

The entrepreneur and politician added that: “Any politician who calls on young people to take to the streets should be the first to lead, alongside his or her own children”.

Lyonga urged diaspora compatriots to "refrain from both physical and verbal violence, while continuing to demonstrate discipline, civic responsibility, and respect for the laws of their host countries".

In a firm but diplomatic remark directed at the government of France, Lyonga appealed for non-interference in Cameroon’s domestic affairs.

He asserted that “the new generation of Cameroonians is enlightened, informed, and determined to protect the sovereignty of their nation from any form of manipulation or neo-colonial influence".
