Garoua: 2024 Cameroon Ballon d'or winner, Nchindo John Bosco, gets hero's welcome.

Former Yong Sport Academy, YOSA, captain, Nchindo John Bosco, received a hero's welcome to Garoua, in the North Region, following his 2024 Cameroon Ballon d'Or win. 

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was treated to a special welcome by fans, players, and officials of his current club, Coton Sport of Garoua on Monday March 3. 



Nchindo arrived Garoua from Yaounde, where he bagged the prestigious award Cameroon Ballon d’Or Awards organised by the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT during at the Yaounde Conference Centre on February 28. 

The celebrations started at the Garoua International Airport where Nchindo was greeted by the administrative personnel of Coton Sport and some fans. 

The excitement extended to the streets of Garoua where fans celebrated the feat of their star player. They accompanied the player with a caravan on a tour of the town as he brandished the trophy to the rest of the population.

Nchindo was also celebrated by his teammates and members of Coton Sport technical team at the club’s headquarters. 

The officials of the Garoua based club gave the Cameroon Ballon d'Or winner a special welcome to recognise his outstanding achievement. 

It was an occasion for the elated officials to challenge the player and his teammates to keep up the good work to make the club even more proud in future. 

 

Nchindo pledges to work harder 

Reacting to the warm and cordial reception back to Garoua, Nchindo John Bosco expressed his gratitude for the heartwarming welcome. 

The incredibly talented player explained that the triumph was a call to do more. He also seized the occasion to express his commitment to Coton Sport stating his readiness to help the team succeed. 

“I came here today to present my trophy to the team. Last season, I played for Yong Sport where I was captain and this season, I am a player of Coton Sport. This trophy is significant to push and give everything for this darling club Coton Sport and I know this year we will go places," Nchindo is quoted to have said. 

It is important to note Nchindo John Bosco beat off competition from Victoria United midfielder, Wilfred Doualla Nathan, and Yvan Mvondo of Colombe of the Dja and Lobo to win the award. According to experts, it is a well-deserved recognition for his outstanding form last season. Nchindo scored 13 goals and provided four assists last season. 

He also skippered YOSA to the playoffs of the MTN Elite One although they narrowly missed out from the title. 

The Coton Sport of Garoua star player received the award accompanied with a cheque of 5 million FCFA offered by MTN Cameroon. Nchindo's first match with Coton Sport after his latest feat will be against his former club PWD of Bamenda on March 9.
