The late Serge Bertrand Pouth

The death has been announced of renowned journalist, producer and editorialist of the Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV, Serge Bertrand Pouth.

He passed away yesterday morning, at the Yaounde General Hospital after an illness.

The seasoned journalist, rigorous producer, and respected editorialist, died at the age of 58. Many colleagues described him as a time-tested professional.

Trained in the school of rigour, Pouth’s career began at Sueleba FM 105 in Douala, where he quickly distinguished himself through his eloquence and insightful analysis.

His voice and style captured the attention of listeners, laying the foundation for a career that would span over three decades.

Pouth later joined Paola FM in Bafoussam in the West Region, contributing to its growth and regional recognition.

He consolidated his reputation years later, following his transfer to Yaounde, where he became one of the central figures at the State broadcaster, CRTV.

His influence extended across radio, television, and digital platforms, where he mentored younger journalists and produced programmes that have gained national recognition.

Since the announcement of his death, tributes have been pouring in for the seasoned professional, who was admired for his rigor, creativity, and commitment to journalism.

Colleagues describe him as a passionate radio man, a meticulous producer, and an editorialist whose work left an indelible mark on audiences.

“Serge Bertrand Pouth is a talented cultural journalist, known for his distinctive voice. Last year, he had his leg amputated due to complications related to diabetes,” noted his colleague, Sabin Nana.

Despite health challenges, Pouth, sources say, remained active in the profession until recently when he took ill again.

According to many, his passing leaves a deep void at CRTV and in the country’s media landscape in general.

Colleagues say he will be remembered, not only for his professionalism but also for his vision of journalism as a tool for education and cultural promotion.

Details of his funeral programme are short in supply.
