Guinness Super League: Authentic beats Caiman to climb from bottom to 9th spot.

Authentic Ladies has three wins in nine matches

Littoral Region football club, Authentic Ladies of Douala has moved from the bottom 12th to the nineth position on the classification table of women’s first division football championship, the Guinness Super League.

The team escaped the relegation spot after beating sister club, Caiman Filles Football of Douala 1-0.

The match played on Saturday February 1, at the Annex of the Reunifications Stadium in Douala, was one of six day nine matches of the championship.

The Authentic Ladies got the lone goal of the match through a header from former Amazone FAP teenage sensation, Kameni Mireille.

The victory was the third Authentic this season, with the club having suffered six defeats in its first eight matches of the ongoing women’s topflight championship.

The three additional points from the victory over Caiman Filles increased the Authentic Ladies’ point tally to nine.

The points helped the club to climb above three of its rivals in the ongoing battle for relegation, including newcomers Cyclone of Douala, Dja Sports and Awa Filles Football Club.

The team was placed at an advantageous position after all the three relegation fighting teams suffered defeats over the weekend.

Cyclone suffered a 0-3 goals loss to Louves MINPROFF at the FECAFOOT Technical Center in Odza in the outskirt of Yaounde on Friday.

The defeat meant Cyclone remains with just two wins and two draws in eight matches this season. The club tallies eight points and stands 10th on the table.

Awa Football Filles dropped to the bottom 12th position after failing to add to the six points they had won in their eight opening matches.

They were beaten 5-0 by league leaders FC Ebolowa at the FECAFOOT Technical Centre.

Elsewhere, Dja Sport lost 1-3 to Amazone FAP of Yaounde.

Battle for revival

Since its promotion some three years ago, Authentic Ladies has been one of the finest teams in the Guinness Super League.

But defensive lapses which have been partly blamed on the departure of several of the club’s key players has seen the club continuously struggling.

The team has conceded 25 goals this season, highest in the championship. They suffered the highest defeat on match day seven, losing 0-9 to FC Ebolowa.

The Douala club is expected to build on last Friday’s victory going into the rest of the competition.

Lekie Filles humbles struggling Ita Mbong

Other matches played in the championship over weekend had Lekie Filles Football Club of the Centre Region silencing Ita Mbong of Nkambe 3-1.

The match was played at the University of Bamenda Stadium on Sunday.

The defeat led to the North West Region flag bearer dropping to eighth position on the tentative classification table.

With Saturday’s victory in Bambili, Lekie Filles maintained the gap between the top two teams on the title race on one point.

Lekie Filles totals 24 points and remains second on the standing while FC Ebolowa tops on the classification with 25 points.
