National Interpools: Sable Batie begins promotion race with win in opener.

West Region flagbearers, Sable de Batie, kicked off their MTN Elite Two promotion campaign with an emphatic victory.

The title and promotion aspirants picked up their first win yesterday after securing a 2-0 victory over Olympic of Meiganga of the Adamawa Region.



This was during the opening fixture of the 2025 National Interpools. 

The clash took place at the FECAFOOT Technical Centre in Odza, Yaounde.

Sable of Batie and Olympic of Meiganga headed into the pool A fixture determined to make a strong statement to their quest to gain promotion to their second tier.

It did not take long for the game to burst to life with both teams creating chances to change the narrative of the game. 

But it was the West Regional League champions that looked on course for victory after they found the breakthrough.

Olympic of Meiganga kept their rivals at arm’s length for large parts of the game before the referee awarded Sable of Batie a penalty after one of their players appeared to have been fouled in the box. 

Sable of Batie skipper, Fifen Abdou, stepped up and scored at the stroke of halftime from the penalty spot after cleverly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. 

They held on to the lead at half time.cThings got better for Sable of Batie in the second half.

They capitalised on their spells of pressure and doubled the lead through Stephane Abanda on 59 minutes.

The win means Sable of Batie lead pool A of the 2025 National Interpool.

It is a positive step for the Sable of Batie who are keen on finishing the tournament with an Elite Two ticket.

They have a stern test ahead of time in their next outing when they take on Mictack FC of the Centre Region. The host team was on standby on matchday one.

Olympic of Meiganga on their part have to put the defeat behind them and draw the positives. 

With three matches still left to be played, the team still has its chances of qualifying for the second tier. 

They face Diamant FC of Yagoua in their second outing.

It is important to recall that the second match in pool A between Diamant FC of Yagoua and Kumba City FC, initially scheduled to take place yesterday at the FECAFOOT Technical Centre in Odza, was postponed to today.

The National Interpools shall take place in Yaounde from September 1-14. 

The 10-club competition will see the top two clubs earn promotion to the MTN Elite Two next season.
