The General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, was visibly the star of the day, during a fundraiser organised by Wi-Njuh; over the weekend in the nation's capital.

She was equally raised to high heavens for donating a financial support of 5 million FCFA to the association of women from the Wimbum tribe in Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region.

She handed the support to the association during its fourth national convention organised in Yaounde on Saturday, January 25. The gathering brought together close to 1,000 members of the association from 13 chapters across Cameroon.

One of the key activities at the Yaounde convention was a fundraiser, intended to mobilise funds to provide support to queen mothers in various Fondoms in the Wimbum tribe as well as girl children who cannot afford education because of lack of means.

On the occasion, the General Manager of CAMTEL, herself a member of Wi-Njuh, announced the 5 million FCFA support.

While lauding Wi-Njuh’s initiative of thinking about empowering queen mothers and needy girl children in Mbum land, Judith Yah Sunday pledged her continuous support to any activity the association plans to carry out.

Speaking during the event, the National Coordinator of Wi-Njuh, Manju Bawe Helen, saluted the continuous support from the CAMTEL GM.

She said in just over two years of existence, they have done a lot in terms of contributing to revamp the Wimbum cultural values and norms seriously threatened as a result of the advent of modernity.

Manju Bawe added that there is still a lot to be done and urged the members to be more than ever before committed to the cause they have at hand.

Apart from the fundraising, there were educative talks on topics such as women and financial empowerment, reinforcing love among Njuh women, how to prevent non-communicable diseases, personal hygiene among others.

The high point of the ceremony was when Yah Sunday Judith made her entry into the ceremonial ground. She was rolled not just a red carpet but was ushered to her sitting position in a queen-like manner.

She was easily the centre of attraction as all the women and other invitees present scrambled to greet and take pictures with her. The climax was when she stood up to dance to the Njuh rhythm.

A loincloth was spread for her to dance on it as a sign of the love, support and respect the Wimbum women have for her. Each dancing step she took was greeted by a thunderous and prolonged applause.

Yah Sunday Judith, it must be said, has grown very popular in her Donga Mantung Division of origin, not only within the women folk but among all, irrespective of political or cultural backgrounds.

Her unmatched and consistent support for peace, national unity, contribution to the Division's development efforts, and support to women groups and all palaces in Donga Mantung Division, have greatly boosted her popularity in the area.

About Wi-Njuh

The association, being the brain child of the National President of the Wimbum Cultural Development Association, WICUDA, Apostle Fogwe Rogers, saw the light of day in August 2022, in Yaounde.

It is a platform where issues affecting the Wimbum woman in particular, and the entire community as a whole are being discussed. Membership into the association is reserved for all Wimbum women by birth and by marriage.

Wi-Njuh was created with the objective to rally all Wimbum women together to revamp and instill Wimbum cultural norms and values that are fast disappearing due to modernity.

It is also out to educate the Mbum woman on the importance of upholding certain Wimbum customs and traditions that are gradually being eliminated by contradictory religious beliefs.

The association also seeks to empower the Mbum woman and the girl child to be socio-economically and academically productive so as to be well inserted into society, especially during this era of digitalisation. Also, it aims to restore the Njuh dance culture back home and recommit the rural woman to belong.
