Commentary: Hon Dr Njingum Musa, the political iroko of Ngoketunjia North.

Hon Dr Njingum Musa

The vibrancy of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, party across the North West Region, has no doubt gained ground in recent years.

Given that the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF, used to be the party with the magic wand across the Region, there is no gainsaying that a new political map is emerging in the North West Region.

Political grounds are beginning to shift, especially with recent defections within the SDF to the National Union for Democracy and Progress, NUDP, political party.

Analysts have been viewing these shifts as going to have a bearing on the October 12 presidential election, the regional council polls of December 2025 and the municipal and parliamentary elections of 2026.

While some political gladiators may feel threatened or have more work to do to maintain the status quo for the ruling party, the situation in Ngokentunjia North Constituency (Babessi and Ndop Central Subdivisions) is pictured to remain unchanged.

Here, the CPDM’s attractiveness under the inspiration of its people-friendly and emblematic Member of Parliament, MP, Hon Dr Njingum Musa, has survived fire and brimstone.

Hon Njingum who is Questor at the National Assembly, has emerged as the undisputed King of proximity politics in Ngoketunjia North, mobilising support for the CPDM, not only in his backyard but across Ngokentunjia and the North West Region in general.

Many had written him off when the veritable grassroots political heavyweight burst unto the political scene in 2007.

Yet, when the population massively voted then Ngoketunjia North SDF MP, Hon Yoyo Emmanuel, to rally behind Hon Dr Njingum Musa, the shock was unbelievable but real.

Those who even claimed it was a victory of coincidence, have today buried their heads in shame, because Hon Njingum Musa has continued to enjoy popular support at home and beyond.

His re-election for three consecutive mandates as MP, has buoyed Hon Dr Njingum Musa’s position as the irremovable Iroko of Ngokentunjia North Constituency.

It is already being said and rightly so that the bond between Hon Dr Njingum Musa and the people of his constituency is unbreakable.

Hon Dr Njingum Musa is one politician whose fortune and popularity, like old wine that tastes better, has continued to expand as time goes on.

Across Ngokentunjia, he has cemented the place of the CPDM through real field work and not political rhetoric or fake promises of a better tomorrow, which some political underachievers and parvenus are known for.

Having safeguarded his backyard, Hon Dr Njingum Musa is now being solicited by his peers within the CPDM across the North West Region to power sustainable political relevance.

Political fire extinguisher, peace builder

If anyone doubts why Hon Njingum Musa has grown in wisdom, power, influence and remains the most endeared of elite to the population of Ngokentunjia North, then his works can best explain.

Even beyond general works, Hon Dr Njingum Musa’s tenacity and connection with his people, even when the crisis in the North West and South West Regions sent most politicians and elite into hiding, have solidified his place as the Iroko of Ngokentunjia North.

Njingum Musa is one of the few Anglophone grassroots politicians who braved the odds when guns coughed unendingly; to talk peace, assist people in difficult conditions and convince those who had taken up arms against the State to give peace a chance.

This Czar of say-and-do politics is the father and mother the people of Ngokentunjia North saw coming to their rescue, when everyone abandoned them in the face of the armed conflict in the English-speaking Regions.

Having emerged from among his people and aware of where his power as a leader is coming from, Hon Dr Njingum Musa has never for one day abandoned his constituency.

When the bullets flew, explosives threatened, the ghost downs stopped schools, lockdown crippled life and pseudo-generals pushed the people into nadir, but Hon Dr Njingum Musa was there.

He has a gift which is that of demystifying politics to project the place of service and servanthood.

The political God father, peace crusader and communal umbrella who Hon Dr Njingum Musa has been and still to the people of Ngokenjia North, make his place in their hearts unchallenged. Njingum Musa is the lone politician whose voice gives direction, momentum and political direction in the area.

Fruits of peace initiatives

While fare weather dreamers and political adventurers are already being spotted posturing around Ngokentunjia North, Hon Dr Njingum Musa remains the sole person who toiled for peace to return, not only in Ngoketunjia North, but in the entire Division and the North West Region.

The political heavyweight has nothing to worry about. Njingum Musa has in successive years invested his time and resources, through various economic, psychosocial, sports and economic schemes to reverse separatists’ activities.

From donating farm inputs, to sponsoring youth in vocational training and other skills acquisition ventures, Hon Dr Njingum Musa has also used sports tournaments to revive communities in his constituency.

In the catalogue of elite who have re-echoed President Biya’s peace message to separatist fighters, Hon Dr Njingum Musa stands out.

He has talked several young people whom separatists brainwashed to turn against their people and country, to dump violence and go to DDR centers for reintegration.

Hon Dr Njingum Musa is credited with the school resumption and functioning of social facilities in Ngokentunjia North.

Markets, health facilities and community thrift schemes have become functional with farmers also back on their estates. This, thanks to the indefatigable and patriotic CPDM MP for Ngoketunjia North.

Having shown his love for his people before the crisis and staying connected to them in dire times and now that relative calm has returned, Hon Dr Njingum Musa stands out as the most penetrative ray of light and hope of his people.

If it is about seeking for votes, either for the Head of State, Paul Biya, for the October 12 poll or returning to parliament in 2026, Hon Dr Njingum Musa has nothing to worry about.

Those who want to feed their fowls on the market day to sell best, must be reminded that in Ngokentunjia North, the coin of politics, local development, community empowerment among others, for over two decades, has just one man’s face- Hon Dr Njingum Musa. That coin, locals and observers are saying, will not have a replacement anytime soon.

Seducing opposition to bolster CPDM

In the market place of politics, Hon Dr Njingum Musa has proven that it is not about noise but strategy and vision that people rise to the top and harvest big for their respective populations.

This explains his in-routes into opposition strongholds. Like he did to Hon Yoyo Emmanuel in 2007, dislodging the SDF to implant the CPDM in Nogkentunjia North, Hon Dr Njingum Musa has continued to grow his game.

Recently, he convinced the SDF North West Secretary, Mafogho Inusa, to resign and join the ruling CPDM. As a politician whose genuine works have gained national traction, the Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee, Jean Nkuete, did not waste time in saluting the huge harvest of Hon Dr Njingum Musa.

Mafogho emerged from that audience, praising the political leadership of Hon Dr Njingum Musa and the serenity within the CPDM.

“Political organisations function like families. Sometimes when you look at the way people function, you realise that there are some families that are more organised and coordinated than others,” Mafogho had said, on June 23 this year.

As a testament to the works of Hon Njingum Musa across Nkokenjunjia North, Mafogho cited his “teamwork, the coordinated activities and the focus that the CPDM has towards building unity, peace, tranquility and some kind of development projects…” as having attracted him.

With such exploits, it is evident that in Nogkentunjia North, the only cock that was relevant yesterday, is relevant today and will continue to be relevant for the foreseeable future is no other person than Hon Dr Njingum Musa.

All clap for the sole Iroko of Ngokentunjia North and one of the nation’s most productive lawmakers, Hon Dr Njingum Musa.
