Germany: Kofane opens goal account at Leverkusen.

Cameroon forward, Christian Kofane, has opened his goal-scoring account with German first division championship team, Bayer Leverkusen, in his debut full-start for the outfit.

The 19-year-old who joined the Bundesliga team last month, got the goal last Tuesday August 5 during Leverkusen’s 3nil victory over Italian Serie A team, Pisa Sporting Club.



The game was Leverkusen’s fourth preseason game in the side’s buildup to the start of the 2025/2026 football season in Germany where the club will tip off its campaign with the German cup on August 15 before launching its Bundesliga series eight days later.

Kofane found the back of the net at the 17th minute of the Pisa fixture after doubling the lead for the 2023/2024 Bundesliga champions 13 minutes after a fourth minute opener by ace German midfielder and Leverkusen skipper, Robert Andrich. 

Argentine midfielder, Exequiel Palacios, got the third goal for the Erik ten Hag-managed team after firing in the final minute of the first segment of the fixture.

The Pisa Sporting Club fixture marked Kofane’s first full start for Leverkusen since the youngster joined the German team last month from Spanish second division championship team, Albacete Balompie football club.

Before the Pisa match, the youngster had featured as a substitute in his first two games on the colors of the German heavyweights.

He had notably come in at the 67th minute to replace Nigerian midfielder, Nathan Tella during Leverkusen’s 2-1 victory over Dutch team, Fortuna Sittard on Friday August 1. 

The Fortuna match came five days after the Cameroonian made his debut for the club on July 27 during Leverkusen’s comfortable 2-0 victory over German second division championship team, Bochum football club on July 27. 

 

Goal against Pisa statement show for Kofane 

The account opener against Pisa has been described by football fans as a massive statement show for the rising Cameroonian attacking sensation 

Per football pundits, the goal reignited discussions on the attacker’s huge potential as one of the brightest youngsters in global football at the moment as it came as a fresh reminder on the similar performances that brought the young forward to the limelight during his time at Albacete.

Leverkusen signed Kofane from Albacete in a four-year deal on July 11. The club reached out to the star after the forward scored eight goals and contributed an assist in 20 matches in the Spanish second division championship during the 2024/2024 season.

The forward got the goals in the second half of the 2024/2025 season, the youthful sensation having only walked his way to Albacete’s senior team in December last year following his brilliant performances at Albacete’s under-19 team. 

Albacete shipped Kofane to the youth category after signing the forward in November last year from amateur side, AS Nylon in Cameroon. The team however promoted the youthful sensation to the senior team after barely seven matches with the youth club. He got his opening goal for the club’s senior team just two minutes into his debut for the elite side.
