D'la Women Clean City Football Tournament final: City Mayor urges youths to believe in country's future.

The City Mayor of Douala, Dr Roger Mbassa Ndine, has urged young people to believe in the country’s future as authorities continue to work to address challenges. He was peaking on Friday, August 15, at the Newbell neighbourhood.

This was during the final of the Douala Women Clean City Football Tournament which pitted KDD FC against Adeben FC.



He told young people who turned out in their numbers to lived the encounter that there is no country without challenges. 

In Cameroon, he said work remains in progress to address concerns especially those of the youth. On this note, he challenged young people to continue to pursue their dreams and believe in the country.

Meanwhile, KDD FC won the match by one goal to zero to win the trophy of the 16-team tournament. To the organizer of the tournament, Elie Zang Zang, it was an opportunity to promote peace, social cohesion and living together. 

Zang said he also sought to use the tournament to further make known the Douala Clean City project that seeks to promote cleanliness in the country’s economic capital.

Zang stated that “football is the only thing that unites Cameroonians of all religions and backgrounds” adding that it also “keeps the youths busy, via petty business activities, so through football, we promote development”

The initiator of the tournament announced that with the start of the 2025/2026 academic year just around the corner, he will offer didactics to vulnerable learners in Douala.

 

About the Douala Clean City project 

The Douala Clean City Project was officially launched in October 2023 by the city Douala.  Officials said the objective of the project to transform Douala’s urban landscape through a combination of grassroots engagement, municipal commitment, and targeted investments in sanitation infrastructure. 

Central to the project are women volunteers who spearhead street-level cleanliness initiatives. There are also youth deployed across Douala to sweep streets, drains, and clear vegetation, in a bid to keep the city neat and attractive to visitors.
