Truth: Trump re-appoints “Amba diplomat”!.

US President Donald Trump and Tibor Nagy

Former United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Tibor Peter Nagy Jr., has often been critical of Yaoumde's handling of the conflict in the North West and South West Regions; to the point government apologists called him "Ambazonian diplomat".

In one of his social media postings, he gave separatist leaders the path to independence, based on UN Resolution 1608.

According to the resolution, after Francophone Cameroon gained independence from France on January 1, 1960, UN Resolution 1608 had called for dialogue between the new Francophone Cameroon authorities, the British government and Southern Cameroons authorities, to negotiate a possible union between Southern Cameroons and Francophone Cameroon.

That negotiation during which Britain was absent at Foumban, a federation was agreed upon as a form of State for the union.

Separatists argue that returning to "La Republique du Cameroun," which the North West and South West Regions were not part of by January 1960, was an act of separation by Yaounde.

Nagy, in his posting last August, outlined separatists' three paths to self-determination. He advised secessionists to abandon all hopes of dreaming that the UN Resolution 1608 could lead them towards their much-desired independence.

As he explained, the resolution, adopted in 1961, followed a plebiscite in which the British Southern Cameroons voted to join the predominantly French-speaking Republic of Cameroon.

Despite claims from English-speaking activists that the resolution was never properly implemented, thus rendering the union invalid, Tibor Nagy made it clear that Resolution 1608 was not the solution for Ambazonia's independence.

“Ambazonia and some still believe in UN Resolution 1608. Sorry, let’s be realistic. There are only three ways for Ambazonians to have their own determination: Winning it (like the US got their independence); negotiating a real referendum; or the Cameroon government ceding its territory. UN Resolution 1608 is a false God,” he stated.

With the return of Trump to power today, Tibor promises more pressure on Yaounde, on the security crisis that has been raging in the North West and South West Regions for nearly eight years. “If President Trump has chosen certain people whose names have been mentioned for high-level positions, the Yaounde regime will be under much more pressure for the mistreatment it inflicts on its English-speaking population,” Tibor Nagy had said.

He had added that: “The Cameroonian government has retained a relative gratuity with Biden, I hope that will change" with Trump who during his first presidential campaign promised to "personally lock up African long serving leaders".

Diplomacy is, however, tricky with national interest a priority. After Trump's victory, Nagy told Voice of America, VOA, in November that: “I don’t think people should worry about the slogan “America First,” because that doesn’t mean “America only”.

"There are many areas where interests between the U.S. and Africa intersect. China, we very much see as a long-term existential threat, and so I think we’ll be a little bit more honest in saying that part of our Africa relations is about China. Then there’s the very important issue of critical minerals. Why should China monopolise all the critical minerals in Africa, when it would do much better if Western, i.e., American companies, were also involved? So, I think Africans should be optimistic. I think they’ll have a lot more deals and a lot fewer lectures,” Nagy said on VOA.

In his latest tweet, he announced: “Dear friends, adversaries, and trolls, looks like I’m going back to US State Dept on Monday (today), in a position which will be beyond just Africa. So, I’ll stop expressing my personal views until my temporary position finishes (probably a few months). God bless you all and come back soon!”.

The truth is that given America's interest, the abundance of resources in Cameroon, the man will be more involved, hustling for resources with China, than openly doing the bidding for Amba who are celebrating his appointment.
