Local authorities trained on programme budget execution.

Decentralised Local Authorities have been edified on the preparation and execution of programme budget in the country.

They were trained during a workshop organised by the Cameroon Inclusive and Resilient Cities Development Project, PDVIR.



The project is being implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, MINHDU. The workshop which began Monday, January 6, and ended Friday, January 10.

It took place in the Mbalmayo, the chief town of the Nyong-and So'o Division of the Centre Region.

The five-day intensive training programme was aimed at enhancing the financial management skills of participants, equipping them with essential knowledge and tools to improve public service delivery. 

Key objectives of the session included, strengthening understanding of public finance management principles; enhancing practices in preparation, planning, programming, and budget execution using the PPBS Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Monitoring approach.

As per the organisers, by building the competencies, the training sought to improve the financial governance of local authorities, enabling them to better address the public's needs and foster more inclusive and resilient urban management.

The initiative forms part of Component 1 of the PDVIR, which focuses on capacity building for effective urban governance. 

It highlights government’s commitment to empowering local authorities with the skills required to promote sustainable development and better serve their communities.

 

PDVIR in a nutshell

The Project for the Development of Inclusive and Resilient Cities, it should be said, operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, MINHDU. 

It accompanies decentralised local authorities, CTDs in implementing activities across seven cities in Cameroon. The cities include Ngaoundere II Council, Maroua I Council, Kousséri, Kumba II Council, Batouri, Yaoundé V and VII Councils, and Douala Douala III and V Councils.
