After severe damage: CAMWATER restores Bertoua potable water treatment station.

Dr Blaise Moussa: CAMWATER General Manager

The East Regional Delegation of the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation, CAMWATER, has announced the restoration of the Bertoua potable water treatment station.

This follows extensive rehabilitation efforts carried out by CAMWATER and the Cameroon Electricity distribution company, popularly known by its French acronym as ENEO technical, with teams bringing relief to residents after a temporary seven-day disruption in water supply.

The information was made public through a statement published by the General Manager of CAMWATER, Dr Blaise Moussa on Friday, January 11.

As per the statement, the interruption was caused by an act of arson, where malicious individuals set a bush fire with the intent to sabotage operations.

This led to significant damage, including the destruction of over 150 meters of electrical cables and more than 70 burnt connectors, resulting in a complete electrical failure at the station.

CAMWATER responded promptly, undertaking emergency rehabilitation to restore functionality. The General Manager in his statement went on to commend its clientele for their patience and resilience during this period.

Dr Blaise Moussa further extended gratitude to the Governor of the East Region, Grégoire Mvongo for his unwavering support and personal involvement in resolving the crisis.

The official acknowledged ENEO for its collaboration in ensuring a swift restoration of water services.

While the station is now operational, CAMWATER emphasised the need for ongoing observation and vigilance over the next few weeks to ensure the stability of Bertoua’s potable water supply system.

The water utilities corporation strongly condemned the acts of vandalism and urged residents to take responsibility in safeguarding public infrastructure against such destructive activities.

Subscribers are encouraged to join efforts in combating the sabotage of vital installations, which jeopardise the well-being of the community.
