Inclusive studies: CBC Health Services fetes Dr Bridget Longla for bagging PhD.

The Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services, CBCHS, has celebrated another milestone in the life of one of its senior staff, Dr Bridget Longla.

She recently bagged a Doctor of Philosophy, PhD, certificate in disability studies with focus on inclusion.



Dr Longla is an Inclusive Education Advisor at the Socio-Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, SEEPD, Program. 

She was celebrated during a ceremony at the CBC Health Services Resource Center in Mvan, Yaounde. 

She obtained the certification from the Prestigious University of Cape Town, South Africa. Disability stakeholders alongside CBC Health Service staff attended the event.

The feast came after she completed her studies on September 3, 2024, in South Africa. Dr Longla stated that the needs and challenges of learners with disabilities fuelled her new academic exploit.

 

Adding value to CBC Health Services

The Chairperson of the event, Prof Tih Pius, said Dr Longla’s academic achievement will add more value to inclusive education.

Prof Tih said Dr Longla has been a key figure in elaborating and implementing inclusive policies for persons with disabilities. 

He acknowledged knowing Dr Longla as a person with exceptional competence, intellectual brilliance and innate abilities to translate theories into practical.

The research work of Dr Longla, Prof Tih said, will provide real world solutions to challenges of persons with disabilities in Cameroon. He urged her to keep the steam.

On his part, the Empowerment and Disability Inclusive Development, EDID, Program Manager, Tsangue Glory, cited results of the inclusive education program. 

Tsangue said thousands of children are today schooling thanks to the scheme. With Dr Longla’s new exploit, Tsangue said challenges that abound will be addressed.

The Coordinator of Services of People with Disabilities, SPD also SEEPD Program Manager, Jacques Chirac Awa, saluted the hard work of Dr Longla.

Awa also praised her unwavering commitment to advancing inclusive education. He described Dr Longla’s work as a beacon for advocates of equity and inclusion in education.

The Inspector General at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Chief Foreke Asongtia, the CBM Country Director, Julius Fon, among others hailed Dr Longla’s contributions to the education of learners with disabilities.

Dr Longla on her part thanked those who came to celebrate her. She cited challenges experienced in six years, including the demise of loved ones as one of the things that almost caused her to quit.

She expressed gratitude to those who supported her to stay on. Dr Longla was particularly grateful to CBM and the CBC Health Services for supporting her to expand her knowledge in inclusive education.

Other persons whom she thanked were; Prof Tih Pius, the Deputy Director of Administration and Finance, Warri Denis; Personnel Manager, Ndosak George; former North West Regional Delegate of Secondary Education, Ngwang Roland among others.

 

Dr Longla in brief

Dr Longla has served as the CBC Health Services SEEPD Program as Inclusive Education Advisor since 2010. She has through workshops trained hundreds of teachers on inclusive teaching practices. 

She has also been very instrumental in advocating for inclusive examination practices by the General Certificate of Education, GCE Board. 

She is also a pillar in the promotion of disability inclusion at policy levels by key education stakeholders at regional and national levels.
