Akere: Biya, don’t fall prey to those urging you to seek re-election|.

Barrister Akere Tabeng Muna

International legal luminary, anti-corruption crusader and former Bar Council President who has declared his intention to run for the 2025 presidential election, Barrister Akere Tabeng Muna, has said he is ready for the ultimate sacrifice to save Cameroon from impending disaster.

He made the declaration recently in his end-of year address to Cameroonians.

Looking at 2025 as a crucial year in the annals of the country, Barrister Akere Muna said: “We are negotiating a crucial turning point in the history of our nation. The choices we make in the coming year will determine whether we ignite a spark of hope for our people or continue down the path of those who propose the continuation of precariousness, in a country whose roads, schools, and hospitals are relics of centuries past. 2025 will be a decisive year. The future of Cameroon is at stake”.

Frowning at those who are calling on the incumbent Head of State to seek another mandate, Akere, unequivocally stated: “I have known the current president and observed his attitude in serving others. Those who sing his praises and urge him to run again are driven by a single interest: their own. It is time for us to look beyond personal gains and focus on the collective future of our beloved nation”.

“…to my Cameroonian compatriots from different coalitions and opposition parties, I say this: there is nothing we are not ready to sacrifice to prevent our country from sinking into the abyss towards which it is currently heading. We must unite and work together to find solutions that serve the interests of all Cameroonians,” he stated.

Akere went further to propose a transitional government “that will allow us to rebuild our institutions and bring about systemic change aimed at the emancipation of our people”.

“Once we have established these new institutions, I will ensure that free and fair elections take place, and I will hand over power to the new leader chosen by the people,” he declared.

Urges citizenry to register, vote, protect votes

Talking about the imminent elections in the country, Akere urged all and sundry to register on the electoral roll, vote and protect their votes.

“In the coming year, the future of Cameroon will be in your hands. It is imperative that you register to vote, actively participate in the electoral process, and be present at your polling stations during the counting. Past results have shown that many register but do not vote. This time, if you do not vote, you forfeit your right to complain. Your voice matters, and it is your duty to make it heard,” he averred.

Slams CEMAC leaders over declared “misfortunes”

Meanwhile, Barrister Akere Muna also fired tirades at CEMAC leaders over their declarations during the last summit in Yaounde.

“When our leaders list the misfortunes that have befallen our country, I ask a simple question: who was in charge? Everyone acknowledges that poor governance and corruption are our main obstacles. Can we reasonably hope that those who have entrenched such a system will be the ones to fix it?” he questioned.

Akere also had words of sympathy and condolences to victims of floods in the Far North, double landslide in Dschang, internally displaced persons of the armed conflict in the North West and South West Regions, and refugees in the East Region.

He also expressed gratitude to the Union for the Reconstruction of Cameroon, staying that: “Since June, you have been working tirelessly on programmes and strategies to ensure a flawless campaign next year. Your sacrifices and dedication are the foundation upon which we will build a better Cameroon together”.

“As we enter this New Year, let us carry with us the hope and determination to create a better future for our nation. Together, we can overcome the challenges before us and pave the way for a just, prosperous, and free Cameroon. Let us remember one thing: no matter the electoral system in place, the ultimate power belongs to the people,” he affirmed.
