Indomitable Lions: True, false resignation of Brys!.

Marc Brys

Football lovers have been left confused, as to whether the head coach of the Indomitable Lions, Marc Brys, has actually resigned from his job or not.

Earlier Wednesday, a statement, said to be from the Belgian tactician went viral, indicating he had stepped down from his role as Lions coach, a little over a year in charge.

Just when many were still to digest what football experts had qualified as a shocking resignation, another statement emerged, also said to be from the Lions coach, disclaiming what earlier circulated as his resignation letter.

Both developments have left football lovers in a state of confusion. Sports analysts are now predicting another episode of the battle between FECAFOOT and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, from the true and false resignation.

True, false resignation

Earlier reports had indicated that the gaffer handed the disclaimed resignation letter to the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, MINSEP.

Brys' supposed resignation was reportedly contained in a letter, dated Monday July 21, 2025, and copied the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT.

In the said letter, a copy of which The Guardian Post has reviewed, Brys said he resolved to take the decision over non-payment of his salary.

“In accordance with the provision of Article VII, paragraph 4 of the engagement contract, signed on April 8, 2024, between the State of Cameroon and myself, I have the honour to notify you of my decision to unilaterally terminate the said contract, due to the non-payment of my remuneration and that of my staff, for more than 60 days,” Brys supposedly said in the letter.

The coach stated that the failure of the State to fulfil its financial obligation represents “a serious contractual breach”.

He had bemoaned in the letter that despite “several months of effective performance of my duties, no remuneration has been paid”.

Brys requested that the sports ministry proceed with the “...immediate payment of the residual value of the contract by way of compensation”.

Brys backtracks on resignation

Shortly after Brys reportedly resigned from his role as head coach, another letter surfaced, with the head coach denying that he had taken such a decision.

Brys “categorically denied this information”. The coach said he didn’t write or send any resignation letter and insisted that his account was hacked.

The tactician also expressed concern that FECAFOOT did not “take the trouble to contact him personally before spreading the information”.

He described FECAFOOT’s reply as “deliberate” and shows the FA's “desire for his eviction”.

To further clear the air on the development, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcise Mouelle Kombi, has debunked the rumours that the coach had resigned, insisting that Brys remains the head coach of the national team.

"Marc Brys has not resigned from his position. He remains resolutely on his post. The information relating to the alleged resignation of the Indomitable Lions coach is unfounded and pure manipulation," the minister is quoted as having said on CFOOT.

FECAFOOT on Brys' 'resignation'

Meanwhile, reacting to the supposed resignation of Brys, FECAFOOT had said the body had taken “note of the unilateral termination” of the contract by Brys.

In a one-page statement, the country’s governing football body announced measures to mitigate what they described as the impact of the vacancy.

“In its constant concern to safeguard the interest of Cameroonian football, FECAFOOT has referred the matter to the competent public authorities for the urgent development and implementation of a coordinated response, aimed at limiting the impacts of this vacancy as the head of the technical staff of our national team,” the statement read.

According to FECAFOOT, the urgency to address the issue is justified by the upcoming qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the upcoming AFCON in Morocco.

At the time we headed to press last night, FECAFOOT was yet to react to Brys' resignation rebuttal.
