NWR women’s second tier league: Hilltop Strikers edge Kumbo Strikers Ladies to make winning start.

Hilltop Strikers Football Academy

Hilltop Strikers Football Academy made a winning start to their North West Regional Second Division Female Football Championship campaign.

The team secured their first win in the competition after edging rivals, Kumbo Strikers Ladies, 2-0 in their opening game of the season.

The encounter took place on Tuesday, July 22, at GS Nibung Field in Bamenda.

The clash pitting Hilltop Strikers FA and Kumbo Strikers Ladies was the first game of the day and lived up to the billing.

The Hilltop Strikers FA squad headed for the game with confidence and determined to snatch a win to make a bright start in the NW Regional second division female football championship.

It was a tightly contested game in the first half and Hilltop Strikers FA struggled to break down their opponents.

But the resistance from Kumbo Strikers Ladies did not last for long as Hilltop Strikers FA broke the deadlock on 38 minutes through Odette Bih on 38 minutes. Their goal capped a bright start for the team.

Hilltop Strikers FA did not take their foot off the gas in the second half. They continued to pour forward and were rewarded eight minutes after the restart when Ndongwa doubled the lead.

Hilltop Strikers had several opportunities to inflict more damage on Kumbo Strikers Ladies but spurned their chances. The score remained unchanged at full time.

They became the only team to win in their matchday one fixture. Abakwa Sports, Precious Ladies share the spoils

In the second game, which was played in the same facility, Precious Ladies and Abakwa Sports Academy shared the spoils in a goalless stalemate draw.

Both teams had the chance to win the game in normal time but failed to hit the target.

Precious Ladies had the chance to snatch a win but were denied by the goalkeeper of Abakwa Sport, Sharon Wiykiynyuy who produced a world-class save to deny Afah Miyanui from a well-taken free-kick. With the deadlock unresolved after 90 minutes, both teams settled for a draw.
