Osih Joshua: Regime impoverishing Cameroonians, few can barely feed.

Hon Osih Joshua: SDF National Chairman

Speaking January 1, 2025, while delivering his end-of-year address to the nation, the former presidential candidate, called on President Biya to rise up to the occasion and take Cameroonians out of the sufferings they are currently witnessing.
While chiding the Biya regime for failing to live up to the expectations of the governed, Hon Osih representing Wouri Centre at the National Assembly, presented the SDF as an alternative.

The politician told Cameroonians that after 42 years under the same leadership, “we must do more than endure. We must transform”.

Osih who succeeded the late Ni John Fru Ndi as chair of the SDF, was categorical that the wind that blows today is not just a wind of challenge, he added that “together, we will harness it to build the new Cameroon”.

Turning to other issues, Osih said SDF’s vision for education goes beyond promises. He said once in office, the SDF will implement the family allowance bonus programme to ensure that no child’s potential is limited by poverty and no teacher’s dedication goes unrecognised.

Osih recounted that during his tour of the nation to the forest of the East Region, he encountered the reality that shames the nation. He regretted that millions of children without birth certificates are being denied their very existence in official records.

“We spoke with parents who shared their frustration…this is not merely a bureaucratic failure; it is a moral one. When the SDF takes office, we will reverse this narrative,” he stated before, disclosing that: “The issuance of birth certificates will become our government’s obligation and not the burden of struggling families”.

“…we will bring ID card issuance to every council, breaking down these invincible walls that divide our society,” he also announced.

Speaking further, Hon Osih claimed that the SDF is in keeping of the magic wand to resolving the lingering armed conflict in the North West and South West Regions.

“The ongoing conflicts in the North West, South West and Far North Regions, weigh heavily on our national conscience. In all, over 900,000 citizens are displaced, countless lives disrupted, communities torn apart…this is the price of a failed leadership,” he said.

He then said the SDF is committed to resolving the violence of these conflicts through dialogue, justice and concrete actions within their first 100 days in office.

“As we look towards 2025, we are building more than a political campaign, we are building a movement for change,” he boasted.

The politician said: “…the progressive front represents our commitment to collaborate with like-minded forces for democracy”.

He said the SDF’s partnership with the Cameroon Labour Movement, demonstrates their dedication to workers’ rights and social justice.

Hon Osih noted that: “These alliances are not mere political conveniences; there are partnerships built on shared values and a common vision for Cameroon’s future”.

He regretted that the current economic reality where one in three Cameroonians lives below the poverty line is not just a statistic but represents millions of stories.

He said: “…it represents dreams deferred and potential unrealised”.

The SDF chieftain stated that the party’s commitment to economic transformation through industrialisation, innovation and sustainable development is not just about growth figures.

“It is about creating opportunities for every Cameroonian…the legacy of our late National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, who fought peacefully for three decades for our democracy was nothing less than our full commitment to change,” he concluded.
