At visit to data centre in Douala: P&T Minister hails ST Digital's commitment to innovation, excellence.

Minister Libom Li Likeng was accompanied by the Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua, and other authorities of the Wouri Division.

The visit served as an opportunity for ST Digital founder and associates to underscore the data centre’s role in advancing Cameroon’s digital economy and highlighting the growing importance of public-private partnerships in driving innovation. 

The Director General of ST Digital, Anthony Same, led the minister and her entourage to major offices, rooms hosting energy savers, data storage room.

During the guided visit, Same explained what they have been doing and what they can offer with a human resource made up of young Cameroonian expertise.

Visibly impressed with the facilities, Minister Libom Li Likeng expressed satisfaction with the centre's infrastructure and services, noting that ST Digital's achievements demonstrate the potential for private sector-led innovation to contribute to the country's digital growth. 

“I am really satisfied because I discovered that the private sector has understood the vision and we are really going to go together to succeed in this digital transformation of our country,” the MINPOSTEL boss stated. 

“Not only is it a data centre, but they also have cloud and I discovered that they have already thought about the specific equipment for the development of Artificial Intelligence,” she added.

She emphasised the need for collaboration between the government, private sector, and civil society to drive digital transformation and meet the growing demand for digital services in Cameroon.

“ST Digital cannot do it alone. I call on other operators to follow suit because you remember last year we voted a law on the protection of personal data and Cameroonians will very soon understand that it is very important to have our data in Cameroon so there will be a very high demand,” she stated.

The minister also highlighted the significance of the new law on personal data protection, which will require robust data storage and management solutions. 

She encouraged other private operators to follow ST Digital’s lead in developing digital infrastructure, stressing that the government alone cannot meet the country's digital needs.

Speaking to the press shortly after the visit, the Director General of ST Digital, Anthony Same, expressed pride in the team’s hard work and the recognition received from the Minister and the Governor. 

He spoke of the centre’s competitive edge, citing its ability to provide high-quality, innovative services like cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence.

I feel a sense of pride that we have come this far, and having the recognition of our minister and the governor is a boost to our work and vision,” Same told reporters.
